I pulled the trigger!

PPI came back good on local 2001 S so I went to see it. About 2 hour drive. Black on black, 37K miles, clean as a whistle. Drove her, got back to the guys house, got on his computer, got on my bank site, did the wire transfer, hour later I am the proud owner!

Had to leave my other car there so I could drive this home. Will get it tomorrow. 2 hours on interstate. Man, how can you go wrong, this kind of performance for $17K? Unheard of. (yes I know IMS can go, and maintenance is $$ but I can afford it). Has new tires less than 700 miles and we went and got them balanced right at the shop he bought them at before I drove home. I will post some pics tomorrow.

There is thing I never see mentioned as one of the costs associated with owning one of these. Speeding tickets! Cause I am definitely gonna get one! (at least)

Congrats on your new car.

You better buy a multi band radar/laser detector quick.

It took me about a couple days to make that decision and it has paid for itself probably a dozen times already in the last year.

I bought a mid priced unit ~300 but if I had to do it again I would not hesitate to buy a $600 unit to get ALL the bells and whistles as I figure it has saved me many times that in the first year.

Since I get warning when their around they never get the chance to catch me in the act but I have been followed for a couple miles many times already, their just letting me know they are watching me, but I am also watching them electronically.

Ray I do have about a 5 year old Escort, but you are right time to upgrade to the latest and greatest. Very good point!

I had one unmarked actually pull up next to me. Tinted windows couldn't see in.I was fine behind a big rig in right lane stuck doing 50 coming out of Columbia right after lunch.

He rolled down his passenger window and gave me a smile and thumbs up! Pretty cool! Then a few miles down he pulled off where it opened up and nestled into his favorite hiding place at the top of a rise where no one can see him til they top the crest. Going the other way though.

I have noticed that the cars is pretty sedate under 4K. Accelerates ok cruise along at 75 in 6th at about 2700 rpm. Where it shines is when you get into the power band starting at around 4K in 2 or 3 rd gear and punch it. Holy cow! It really runs through from 3.5K to 6.5K. Like a rocket and that exhaust barks. Nice thing is not so much that the car gets ahead of you though. Just right.

Two things I'd like to do right off to her. The Litronics lights. Where do i find those and should I just have the Porsche dealer install them? Second I'd like to get a little more bark out of the exhaust but do NOT want to do anything to hurt or damage what the Porsche engineers have carefully designed for a reason.

Thanks!

Glad to hear it worked out! Definitely get a good radar detector if you want a reasonable exhaust upgrade, look here:

Top Speed's Cat Back System Installation

I kept my old exhaust in case I ever want to go back to stock or when ever I go to sell, maybe the new owner would want it. It will probably never go back on, but oh well. I want to do the Litronics also, but I don't want to spend too much, so patiently waiting for the right deal. You can do it your self. Get the 101 Projects book. Well worth it. Now, have a great weekend

Yes, that is also when the valve timing changes to aid high speed power. Nothing more fantastic than the sound of that flat-6 at redline!

Look for used sets online around $1K. New from dealer will be double that.

Indeed. Happened to me today. Was cruising the frontage road (god bless Texas) in 3rd gear at about 4k RPM and about to enter the on-ramp to get on the freeway. Punched it and holy crap - before I knew it I was shifting and hitting 80. That put a big smile on my face for sure.

Congrats! You're thinking with your dipstick getting a detector! Escort 9500 & V1 are some very good bets. Welcome to the forum!

Well I jinxed myself. I got a speeding ticket and I was driving like I do in my other car. In the right lane, in traffic, cars around me, some passing me on left. Indicated 78 it was 65 zone. I see NC State Trooper pull in right on my bumper, then light me up? I am thinking what the heck did I do. 80 in a 65 ticket.

I am so f*&king pissed! I asked him if he saw the cars passing me, no answer. I cannot believe it! He singled me out cause of the car. Had to be.

I am going court on this one this is such bs. I truly am stunned I was not the fastest vehicle by any means. I will fight this even if I have to hire a lawyer its principle (and points) on the line.

Is this the way it is? You have sports car and get bent over? Seriously, I am really shocked it is blatantly being singled out.

Pics of car up tonight. Pics of me apoplectic when talking to trooper not available. All I could do from really mouthing off but I held my cool....barely.

Bummer! I haven't been pulled over yet, knock on wood! I know I push it though so I always have the detector going. The other day, I was pulling hard on an on ramp when the detector went off louder than I have ever heard it. There was a cop targeting me but I hadn't reached the speed limit....yet. That's where the S brakes came in real handy sucks he singled you out though but I can honestly say that hasn't happened to me so far.

A couple of things.

First I figured out why my radar detector didn't go off. The cig lighter receptacle is a bit too big for the plug and the detector was off. Also same for my cig lighter splitter and GPS. Is this normal? Is the Porsche receptacle a big larger than american cars? Is there an adapter or something? Plugs keep falling out.

Second is here is my car...and me! Sorry I ruined the shot!

Mine for my escort stays in but others do not. Yes it is a problem. Here is a link to Suncoast to update the socket. I haven't done it yet but I probably should.

4 years, 1 speeding ticket driving through arkansas (downhill, my fault). deferred adjudication, kept my nose clean (in arkansas) and it was dismissed... you'll be fine.

Conz,

Congrats on your purchase. Sucks that you got singled out for speeding, I am constantly straining to stay within 9 mph of limit. No ticket yet, but only had mine for about 15 months.

RE: cig lighter receptacle. Same problem with my cell phone charger and GPS. Went searching locally at P-Dealer and Radio Shack. Guy at RS said, "Why don't you just pry the contacts out a bit?" Worked like a charm!

Man, sorry you got a ticket so fast.
I got pulled over within the first month of owning mine (last December)
I was doing 60 on a 40.
Police officer pulled me over and asked me if i knew how fast I was going. I said I knew I was speeding but that I wanted to hear the engine as I had just gotten the car and I thought I heard something not right (which was true, the air intake had more leaves than NY in autumn)
Police officer checked I had never gotten a ticket before and after lecturing me on how much it would cost to get a speeding ticket asked: "So what year is this car?"
I said "2002" He said " Looks good, I'm gonna let you go this time, but checked your rear lights, you have some blown bulbs there"
HAVING A PORSCHE LET ME OFF THE HOOK!
So don't sweat it, just enjoy the ride and congrats on the new car

This may be urban legend for all I know, so take it with a grain of salt. I've read on some forum that the lighter sockets in Porsches are slightly larger than US versions. Hence, the loose fit. As another poster suggested, pry the clips out a bit for a snugger fit.

PS: best of luck on the court thing. I've tried the selective enforcement argument and it only got me so far. It raised some doubt in the court's mind so that my other arguments regarding an unsafe lane change carried more weight where the traffic offense was a judgment call on the officer's part. On the other hand, maybe you'll get lucky and the trooper wont show. If he does show and has radar evidence, it will be really tough to beat. If the judge cuts you some slack, he'll most likely reduce the fine but still find you guilty.

Thanks guys.

I just ordered the new socket and be done with it. I'll pry out clips probably will work fine and I won't need it.

As for ticket I am just going to make it as difficult as I can for them hoping they will reduce it to something less instead of having to go through crap. If I can ask for jury trial I will.

You know I said to the cop I just got the car yesterday and he could see from bill of sale and title it was true. I was sure he's come back and say okay take it easy or something. I mean I wasn't going 120 I was going 80 in a 65!

Regardless of what happens if he is there and doesn't reduce it I will tell him nicely he is a ahole (I'll figure out how). I have no problem telling him that albeit in a polite way. Nothing he can do about it either. He should not take himself so seriously. My brothers are both cops but NYPD and they said some of those troopers swear they are "born again hard"...as in "Full Metal Jacket".

Getting a ticket really depends on the officers mood, but in answering questions you should never confirm anything...period.

ie Officer: Do you know how fast you were going?

Driver option 1: No Sir. (Wrong answer and now you will have to accept HIS speed)
Driver option 2: Yes, i was speeding a bit (Wrong answer, you just admitted guilt)

Best response: I was driving safely for the conditions. (Confirm NOTHING, be vague, but polite) (The purpose of speed laws is safety so it may resonate with the judge when you respond that way)

You may still get a ticket but you will not be at the officers mercy in front of the judge and will have room to negotiate 10% on the cars indicated speed(Allowable error) plus the radars error. (IE Officers radar/laser may be out of calibration)(Get the police vehicles calibration record for that day, if not done then you can make the judge aware that the detector instrument was in error)

Also be aware that the Boxsters indicated speed is always 3-4mph higher than your true speed. They are built that way on purpose by Porsche.
