Replaced horns. Sad part is I changed them out 6 months ago and they died in 5 months. Try again...

Dave,

Is there a "go-by" on how to remove and replace lighter? Mine is original and dead.

I'd be interested in that too....mine works fine, but its too wobbly to hold in a phone charger, even after bending in the side tabs in the barrel.

Flouese & Justin327,

I used this link for instructions:

http://986forum.com/forums/diy-project-guides/23010-cigarette-lighter-replacement.html

It is a very easy project. I was most concerned about prying off the panel and breaking something since it is plastic but I used a plastic pry tool and it popped right off. I had ordered the part beforehand and had it as a reference as to how the parts snap together which helped to know how to remove the old parts from the panel.

New one is standard size so much better for fitting chargers and such in them. I don't actually need the lighter itself. I don't have the ashtray either, replaced it with the little delete unit and like that much better.

Good luck,

Dave

After a few years of ownership, I didn't even realize there were car specific wipers for the car until recently. Ordered off Amazon and installed last night.

Bought new rear tires yesterday, Michelin Pilot A/S 3.

Went to HF at lunch and pickled up a 2T low profile (2 5/8") floor jack and 4 jack stands (in preparation of doing my brakes someday soon). Ordered the Liftbars last night too. Just need to decide if I'm going to just do pads and rotors, pads and rotors and paint calipers on the car or off the car, or complete rebuild with seals and powder coat the calipers.

No more slippery floor mats for me thanks to these 963/993 mounts.

I'm dying my rear carpets black with Rit dye. They had sun bleaches until it looked like the car had gray hair. Well see how they look after they dry.

I could never get Rit dye more than dark purple. It may look black in the shade, but definitely purple in the sun.

I put new Bosch aero twins on and after a few eels the driver side one is vibrating slightly and squeaking. It looked like the plastic connector on the wiper was wearing so I swapped it out for a standard Bosch one. That's doing the same now. It looks fine. Can't figure it out.

Well, since I just bought mine a few days ago...(and I'm new to the 986 forum)...I have a good list of stuff I'm doing "this week":

Porsche Decals down side
New Boshe wipers
oil change
De-Amber (everything)
Second Porsche key (yikes! $350)
New rear window (damn previous owners...)
Battery tender charger (weekend toy only)
Remove locking lug bolts (23mm 12 point for the win!)
New Intake (nice sound!)
Pedro's Garage exhaust mod (yea, punching holes in stock exhaust hehe)
Leather dash reconditioning - looks amazing now!

Wife is just going to have to find something to do for a few days without me.... :)

itskenallen 03-13-2017 01:35 PM

Just took ownership of a Xenon conversion kit for my headlamps but not sure whether to fit them or not as it involves drilling a hole in the rear of the headlamp unit and tapping into the headlamp loom. I could always fit a rubber bung I suppose. Might look nice considering I have the non-Litronic headlamps. Colour temp of the ones I got are 10k.

Anyway, the kit consists of ballast units, wiring and 2 x HiD bulbs.

Has anyone done this?

Man, you are becoming a legend!

Maybe you get featured in Panorama again, or maybe Excellence this time.

fridsten 03-14-2017 04:50 AM

My Boxster is unfortunately still garaged around 400 miles from where I live, but I did book a service with a well known Porsche mechanic and I also ordered new rotors and pads.

Frank N 03-14-2017 05:09 AM

Looking at it as I start the snowblower to get rid of all this white crap falling on my driveway...and last week i was out with the top down. Stupid weather.

Coaster 03-18-2017 11:38 AM

Replaced brake pads and rotors this week. Used Hawk ceramics to hopefully reduce brake dust. I ended up buying new dampeners since mine looked a little worn but not positive I needed new ones ($170 for all four corners). Also flushed (most of) the system. First time I've ever had it up on four jack stands too. I'm not entirely comfortable with getting all four wheels up yet, car leans quite a bit when jacking it up lol. Also did not bleed the clutch. I finally found the bleed nipple but simply could not reach it since car was on lowest settings of the jacks and didn't feel safe enough to squeeze under the car to get to it.

I've been a buzy bee with my new Boxster. I acquired the car on 1/11/17 and have performed the following maintenance:

3/18/2017 Installed Tranzit BLU HF ISFM2351 Bluetooth Radio Media Integration Kit and hands free calling function.
3/16/2017 Replaced the Boot, Bonnet, doors, Interior, and Glove Box lights with LED's from Suncoast Porsche
3/12/2017 Replaced front brakes with Zimmermann Coat Z Note Rotors, Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads, Pad Vibration Dampers, Retaining Pins (2) Spring Clips (2) Securing Clips, Pad Sensors
3/04/2017 Fixed "stuck" storage doors on Rear Speaker Deck, cleaned drain tubes by Top mechanicals
3/04/2017 Engine Air Filter
2/26/2017 Cabin Air Filter
2/25/2017 Oil Change, filter change, new magnetic drain plug,
2/19/2017 Convertible Top Hack on Pin 18 to allow top to be operated while moving
1/11/2017 Replaced Wipers with Bosch Wiper Blade Set

WillH 03-18-2017 01:44 PM

Spark plug tubes, Motul oil change, and cleaned MAF :)

itskenallen 03-18-2017 02:52 PM

Today I did an oil change. Nice to see no metal on my filter. Although the filter fell apart on me. The previous seller supposedly changed the oil and filter for me at time of sale 10,000kms ago. . I'll let u guys be the judge.

Holy crap! I just changed my oil and filter today as well (about 5,000 miles and 6 months since I last did so), and I can safely say my old filter didn't look like that! Makes me wonder if the car's filter had ever been changed.

njbray 03-18-2017 08:45 PM

Holy Crap - never seen that before!
I think I would do a filter-only change after 500 miles just to make sure there are no bits of filter in the system!

That filter is in bad shape. That's not bad advice and if the filter is loaded with crap, drop the oil again.

911monty 03-19-2017 06:52 AM

That filter looks like it was in for a looooooong time. Probably plugged and passing minimal oil through it. I imagine the oil bypass in the filter got used more than not. I'd recommend getting a new filter housing and replace the one that's on there.

itskenallen 03-19-2017 02:40 PM

All is good now guys. The filter was in one piece when it came out. It fell apart like the pictures show when I tried to disect it to inspect it. But yeah, I'd say the last 2 oil changes were done with a syphon pump.

I'm cheap, but so are filters. In between oil changes I've checked the condition of my oil by unscrewing the cup and pulling the filter. (Guess I'm still a bit paranoid about the M96s) When I do, I put a new $10-$15 filter in. Hard to understand why anyone would change the oil, but not the filter.

Booker42 03-19-2017 09:20 PM

Had a "road force" balancing done along with new front brake pads and rotors. Rebadged both front and back deck lids to original. Applied navy blue Porsche side decals to match the top. I bought the car about a month ago, best bang for the buck I could imagine as cars go. 😋http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1489987207.jpg

Frank N 03-20-2017 02:09 AM

Since it was warm it got washed, since it was warm out, we went out and got dirty again...

Today I fitted a HID headlight bulb kit that I got a few weeks back. Didn't have the weather up to now so I went out and enjoyed the most of the sunny weather today. They make a big difference to the car.

In the first pic you can see the HID and the standard halogen H7 on the car together. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...63818392d2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c9f40db422.jpg
