If I can do this anyone can 😀
Disassembled my bad temp control unit and installed a new screen.
Before and after: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1499033428.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1499033445.jpg Feel really good that I didn't mess it up |
Put in a nice set of LEDs for the low beam last night. Definitely seems to throw more and still has good cutoff. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1499039137.jpg

I successfully managed to break the triangular corner piece off my passenger side headlight. I had just finished detailing my front bumper cover, went to get up, and made the mistake of reaching out to support myself by putting my hand on the headlight. <<CRACK>> Oh well...

I'll take a look tomorrow if you want one. |
Thanks particlewave, but I think I'm just going to order a new one.
In the mean time I'll probably crazy glue the old one back together and tack it back in place with some black silicone adhesive. I like the idea of using a soldering iron to flare out the alignment posts. I may give that a try... But I definitely appreciate the offer! |
While cleaning the foam out of my vents today, I pulled this puppy out...
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1499058851.jpg I'm used to pulling sticky black bits of foam out, so pulling out something like this was a bit of a surprise. Anyone know where in the AC/Heater box this came from? It's about 1/2" square and 5 inches long and had some adhesive on one side. |

Ok, I was able to glue the 2 pieces back together with Loctite Ultragel Control - wow. that stuff works great on whatever type of plastic these are made of. Then I re-attached it to the headlight using some Permatex Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant. I'll wait a day for the silicone to cure, then reinstall the headlight tomorrow.
You really can't tell it was cracked unless you are right on top of it. I think I might just hold off for a while on ordering a new one... I've been thinking of adding headlight washers - maybe I can use this as an excuse to do that... :) http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1499115607.jpg |

Our old headlights were completely done for. The seals melted, and went through bulbs like underwear, so we bought some new ones.

Nice, I replaced mine as well this week. Sold the old ones on eBay and recouped half the purchase price. The new ones look so sharp and crystal clear. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ab1f2f2eb6.jpg Unfortunately, stupid me wasn't paying attention in traffic and tapped the car in front of me. Zero damage to his vehicle, but his tow hitch put a nice gouge in my bumper cover. After considering buying and getting a used bumper cover painted, I have decided to open an insurance claim and get it addressed for the cost of my deductible. Hope to get a new cover. I'm sorry about the bumper cover. That is definitely no bueno. On the plus side, the headlights look really good.

PS: Love your silver Box with the gray top. Don't see too many of those. I always appreciate the lesser seen color combos. Looks really cool. |
Cleaned out the rads... my first time doing so in the 10k I've owned her. Pretty easy DIY, the YouTube video from the radiator specific thread was great.
Also fixed the rear speakers (loose connection) and added LED bulbs to frunk and trunk lights. Great way to spend an afternoon! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d89ded2582.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You can never be too rich, too thin, have too many tools or have too much Red!

Passed the annual state inspection (waiting on the sticker) then I finally got around to the DRL hack.

Finished front lower control arms, tie rods and wheel bearings. Waiting for new axle nuts and drop links and then off for an alignment.

Replaced the cracked passenger side headlight washer cover. I had thought that while I was in there, I would reroute the frunck manual release cable to the tow hook but I did not like the acute angle of the cable after it was relocated (a two minute job if you're already in there). I ended up using two long zip ties to loosely secure the cable to the wiring bundle that exits the frunck near the rear of the headlight opening. I'll still have to open up the wheel well to reach it, but at least it will be easy to find.

Getting ready for PCA NER AX tomorrow.
I did DIY magnetic numbers. Bought the thickest magnetic stick-on sheet I could find on Amazon. Printed the numbers on 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper on my laser printer, covered the sheets with packing take and stuck them on to the magnetic sheets. The look great and stick well to the doors. We may get some thunderstorms so all the supplies and tools are packed into a storage container. If firs perfectly in the frunk, and the tool box is in the trunk with my helmet and two tarps. No room for chairs, just a small cooler. We are two drivers, so passenger seat is not available. GoPro is charging and the SLR is ready. |
Could be a wet one, Anker. Lots of fun slippin' and slidin'. Enjoy.

I decided that the with the arm rest painted red it looked a little too much for me so I went back to the way it was and went red on the bezel above the door handle. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1499457983.jpg

Road trip
I've been racking the miles up including a 2200 km trip through the mountains to southern BC last week. This included a 7km trip up a mountain in 1st gear on a rough gravel road for some hiking and lunch.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1499474467.jpg

I've just washed it and cleaned the interior. Now it looks quite good. :)

Probably better than the roads in Alberta... less pot holes at least:cheers: |
A fund day at the PCA NER AX yesterday. The guy with the beard is not me, but my good friend Chris, who also drove my car.
A big line of thunderstorms reduced the number of runs, but made for some fun driving in the wet. https://photos.smugmug.com/All-Image...BS_6484-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/All-Image...BS_6490-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/All-Image...BS_6495-X2.jpg |
What did I do with my 1999 Boxster today?
Taped and sealed where the top of the vinyl window ripped away from from the roof, caused by shrinkage. [emoji30] [emoji22] Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |
Got my old waterpump and t-stat out over the weekend. Ordered parts today to be picked up tomorrow.
http://i.imgur.com/D4yg1SH.jpg Looking forward to getting her back on the road before my birthday Thursday. |
Saturday, vacuumed and cleaned the interior and installed a fire extinguisher with a metal bracket attached to the passenger seat.
Sunday replaced front brake pads and rotors, followed by a "test drive" Monday - day spent on family responsiblity Tuesday (today) picked up helmet and numbers for DE in August. All the running around in the Boxster, top down if just me, top up with my wife to get Gelato and take her to the library (recovering from eye surgery). |
Picking mine up from the body shop tomorrow, going to my Indy for a Tech inspection and Thursday morning I'm driving up to Mt Trmeblant for a 3 day HPDE. Woo-hoo!
