It was a wonderful day. Shaved over 5 seconds off my time from the morning practice runs to the afternoon timed runs that counted. Came in 3rd in my class and there was only .45 sec difference between first, second and third. then abort 2.5 sec to fourth. the 3 of us all has 986 S bone stock. Biggest difference was tires. I have 320 tread-wear and the other guys has much softer/stickier tires, 200 tread-wear. I'm gonna get a 2nd set of wheels and tires for AX and the track soon. Pretty sure with better tires I would have been at least 1 sec faster, probably 2-3 A Pic in hard cornering |
Leaving for a 1200 mile trip! Wish me luck! :)
|
Went for nice top down drive to the beach today and a walk along the water. Temp 64 degrees.

Replaced the passenger-side window regulator with a good used example from Woody to fix the chewed cable on the original part.
Polished the exhaust tip and surround to take off years of oxidation. Still needs work. |
Cut and molded mesh for front bumper grills!
|
Finally installed a 997 shifter from a 2005. Shifts are now more concise. I really like it!

It was my first time replacing brake pads on a Porsche One word comes to mind..... EASY!!!! |
Pulled the transmission and IMSB. I know now with 100% certainty that I have a single row engine. IMS Solution goes in tomorrow.

Went out for gas yesterday...........175 miles later I finally got back home!:)
I decided to drive to Ojai and then out on the 33! A great road - everything from tight curves to long sweeping uphill curves and wonderful views. Front of car still covered in a lot of dead bugs. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1424678888.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1424678942.jpg |

MAF finally came in, I say good riddance to you CEL and rough idle. |
Removed Coolant Tank
Just finished removing the coolant expansion tank and as expected it was cracked. Going to order one online any suggestions on who has the best price. Keep in mind I am in Canada.
|
I found one here for $101 USD - not sure what the deal would be for Canada but worth checking out...

Finally got to drive it. It's been weeks since I got it back after the new clutch, flywheel and IMSB job. The weather here has been miserable and too cold.

Changed the oil, changed to LN Magnetic Oil Pan Plug, changed over to the LN Oil Filter Spin On Filter Adaptor, changed engine air filter, and changed cabin pollen filter. Kinda proud of myself as I have never done those on a Porsche before. Only cost me $565.86. Next time though the ramps, tools, and parts are already purchased. I will only need just be filters, crush washer and oil next time.

My first DE at a racetrack
WOO HOOO Tons of fun Here's a video of one of my sessions This was at Spring Mountain Motorsports Raceway in Pahrump, NV It was nice and challenging with some very fast corners, a couple of long straightaways and a tight hairpin. Nothing like going from 90+ in 4th to 25 in 2nd at the hairpin. can't wait until the next track event for me in May https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZfqCe4YBtw |
Today i looked for a new Engine, because apparently even after doing the IMS and all preventitive maintenance that wasn't enough to prevent the engine from failing at 80K camshaft failure to be precise!
|
This week brakes and a passenger window reg.I bought Power Stop drilled and slots with ceramic pads.
|
Took her out of the garage for some fresh air.:)
|
I installed Infinity door and dash speakers. What a difference it made. The only question I have, would it sound even better with an aftermarket 4 channel amp since the doors really don't put out much of anything?
I followed the video on making the old dash speakers in to brackets and it was so much easier than I thought it would be. The Infinity 4" have a huge magnet so i lost the plug-in though so I had to change the wires in the dash. |
Washed it in a light cold rain, it starts out wet and no worry about the finish drying before a rinse! :)
|
Today:
- Pulled the clutch and flywheel. - Put together a list of items to order: -LN Dual row bearing -LN IMS Faultless Tools -LN IMS Pro Kit -Porsche -RMS installation tool -RMS -New flywheel -New pressure plate -New clutch -New clutch release bearing Then, sat in the garage looking at the 2000 S. Had a couple of beers and just thought about how great it is going to be to get her back on the road. |
I guess I can make a little list of things I have done.
New hood struts Front rotors Painted calipers HID install LED running lights Push button start Oil change Headers Crios Mod Headunit install and relocation HVAC relocation Factory cupholders Dash speaker replacement Ignition switch Top control hack Radiator fan replacement Interior LED bulb swap New top with glass window I think that is it for now. All of this since the end of November. |
Yesterday I took a trip on a ferry.

Wow, M4SGK1986, that is a shiny Boxster. Looks great!
We have a week to 10 days of 50s and 60s forecasted in the Minneapolis area, so I put the insurance back on, pulled off the cover, and went for a nice top-down ride today with my Daughter. Definitely the earliest Spring drive in the 7 years I have owned it. I'll need to get the orbital out soon to get it looking as good as yours! |
Added a double din today. Still debating on getting the Eurospeed install kit.
