I changed the oil, changed an ignition coil, and topped off a very empty (!!!) power steering reservoir today. The power steering showed no symptoms so I never checked the level until a friend's mom's car needed to be checked- so I looked at mine first to make sure I'd know what I was doing before I went over there. All in all, productive day. |

Minor 105k service and new Michelin A/S 3's installed on front (to match new ones on back last month).
|
Was out doing what the car was born to do (despite the crappy weather).
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...psdl6xf7qq.jpg Funny thing is, on the way down the mountain I passed an identical silver Boxster heading up. Guess he had the same idea. We gave each other a hardy wave. :) |
Installed used GAHH top with glass window. Still some tweaking to do to get it tighter but it's working fine with just a small air leak at speed. Despite the reduced view, it's so much nicer to look into the rear view mirror and not see the distortion from the "fold" in the plastic window.
I also found that putting a couple of clean rags over the rollbars allowed me to wedge the glass window over without scratching to get just about full access for service mode. A bungee is still helpful to keep it from sliding down though. |

LOL... Foothill by real mountain standards, but we'll take what we can get. ;)

Engine was stuttering between 2-3k rpm with blinking engine light before the holidays. Finally took it in today and have to spend $1900 for diagnostics, replacing cracked ignition coils, spark plugs and serpentine belt and an oil change.
They wanted extra $1k for replacing rear rotors/pads/sensors and I said no thanks, I can do it myself. |
I purchased my first Boxster yesterday in Phoenix and dove it back to Colorado over the past 24 hours. Great drive, 26 MPG at 80 MPH until I hit the Colorado border with 18 degrees and snow. Who says Boxsters can't handle winter conditions! A little stressful to say the least...
|
With the kids and grandkids gone from their holiday visit, my assistant and I did a little work on the 99.
We replaced the motor mount and fuel filter. I knew that the mount was pretty bad because it would have a noticeable 'clunk' starting out from a stop. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1419908531.jpg While I was underneath, looking up, I saw the belt. Oops, that's not good: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/belt1419908817.jpg Maybe the original from 1999? I've only had it since August, should have checked that sooner. |
After having the winter tires put on (yes, I love driving the Box in the snow) last month, the rear left was not holding air. I went to the shop today...
New tires. Continental ContiWinterContact TS 830 P |
Put LED lights in the door and over head light. Much brighter, almost harsh.
Edit: oh yeah ordered a new lighted wind deflector and retrofit CGT projectors. Looking for headlights to put them into. |
Replaced the SAI cut off and change over valves. Located under the right hand intake manifold these are real boogers to get to. Takes about four to six hours (first time) could likely get it done in 3 hours next time. Oh yeah, then drove it all over south Houston, fast and top down. :p

Fixed the horn in my 2000 base following the simple You Tube instructions. Took two days and I only had to tear it apart and re-assemble it four times. Now that the horn works properly I will probably have a DIY on bullet hole repairs.

did a nice drive from San Diego to Ojai, about 400 miles round trip. Most of it top down
Some nice twisty back roads as well to bad I had to drive through LA, too much traffic and crappy drivers. Other than that, a great drive |

It finally snowed here. Got to go out and check out how well the new Dunlop Winter Maxx tires work. They did pretty good, weaved back and forth, stayed on track, hit the brakes hard stopped great. Accelerating from a stop still took some finesse on the throttle, once moving I could get a little into the throttle, but not much or the tires would break lose. Overall pretty happy with how competent I felt behind the wheel with them.

PCA CCCR Breakfast
I drove the Jägermobile to Pismo Beach and spent the morning with some of my PCA California Central Coast Region club members, talked about Porsches, drank coffee, and ate breakfast.
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1420944504.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1420944523.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1420944544.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1420944565.jpg Then I replaced the battery in the Jägermobile… Again. It would be nice if batteries lasted more than 7 years and 9 months. Then I installed a California Central Coast Region PCA badge on the Jägermobile. I decided to put it next to my PCA badge on the driver’s side wind screen… What do you think? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1420944625.jpg |
I drove mine to buy Lag Bolts at Lowe's so I can add casters to my new work shop bench
|
Looks good jäger! I had some badges made up for our region awhile back!http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1420947096.jpg

Badges
We don't need no stinkin badges !!
Just kidding, those look great, are they stickers or actual enameled metal ? |
the ones on the windstop are stickers, the badges on the mesh are enameled metal

Took my younger daughter for a ride finally! Here is the story on that.. about two weeks ago, my older daughter (age 6) was sick and had to stay home with me. Well I took her to the dr in my "race car" (what my kids call it). Well, ever since then, my younger daughter (age 5) has asked me about 4,000 times to take her for a ride. And it had finally warmed up enough to get it out for a bit. So I drove her around for a few miles and we stopped to get her some icecream. Well, when we got back she told her sister that we went "like 200" lol!! I think I might of got to 41mph lol. But she is happy, but my older daughter wants to go "200" now. I just can't win lol.

My day with the Box was a grueling 2 hours in traffic from North Dallas to SW Arlington - but it was oh so sweet because I had just finished the MCAT. |
