Local PCA chapter mystery tour. 4 hour back road drive with 30 couples and various P-Cars old and new.
We didn't know where we were going until after the lunch/wine tasting stop We ended up in Palm Desert at a fabulous resort. Off to dinner in a few hours with the group Fun fun fun |
Went to Cars & Coffee in Lafayette Colorado. Great time with awesome cars!

Ventured out with my fellow drive leaders and the Tourmeister for the pre-drive of a brand new Sunday Drive route of the local PCA region.
Just under 90 miles of twisties; ambient temp was around 40°. Most of the group was sporting summer tires, so there were a few sideways moments along the route for those without electronic aids. (Me and the ‘89 Turbo Widowmaker) About 20 miles from the finish, the Tourmeister spotted a craft beer brewery, so he obligingly made an unplanned stop into their parking lot. Rabbit Hole Brewing After a quick tour and a pint of ale (EXCELLENT), we ended the drive in historic downtown Grapevine, where we feasted on some Terlingua quality chili…………the REAL Texas Red; no beans or tomato sauce. We drove home………..I immediately headed for the antacid bottle. I also noticed there were no dead bugs on my windshield. Summer’s gone……..top stays up for awhile now. TO |
Did this yesterday and will do it again today:
http://i.imgur.com/uIVWT9x.png We're running the Rolex course. I managed a 2:27.3 and topped out at 130mph. |
I'm afraid the Boxster won't be out today; it was 39*F when I got up this morning, and the high will be ~50*. Warm weather returns mid-week!

Packed it away yesterday :(
It's been a cold October and I hadn't gotten as much time with it as I wanted. My battery ended up dying. I used jumper cables with the positive terminal in the fuse box and the door latch to get enough power to open the frunk, then rolled it into place and jumped it from the battery. The battery was a few years old and giving signs that it was ready, so I cruised over to autozone for a new one. Then I finished my winterizing routine and turned it in ot my winter home. They packed her away in between a Lotus and an Aston Martin. Good company for the winter :) |
Wife and I had a kid-free weekend down in Fredericksburg. 16 down from DFW, then a quick 16-337-187-39 blast on Sunday. I can see why Boxstoberfest is here - awesome roads.

The "Sisters" are revered by motorcyclists, and you can hustle a Boxster plenty quick through the sweepers, esses, and even hairpins of this undulating 100 mile loop. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1415130127.jpg What all oiling mods have you done to your car? I have the EBS baffle installed but I am still not sure if I would do an HPDE at Daytona although I think it would be a lot of fun. It would probably be fine, I am running Hankook RS3 and not true slicks or R compounds. |

I ended up running a 2:22.9 and topped out at 134mph. Here's a short video of me keeping up with a much faster car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krVYHWveaA0 |
Changed the oil/filter.
Cut the filter open and yet again, I found oil and nothing else. $50 for the oil and $13 for the filter and washer. Saved around $100 doing it myself! |
And here's the fastest lap I recorded from the weekend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvLSNkjhsfA
Going into 1 I am braking from better than 130mph all the way down to about 50...while also turning. Good fun :D |
On Friday I picked up my 986 from the 90k service, and I took a top down spin to the beach. This morning I conditioned all of the my rubber/seals with Gummi Fledge and plan to do a detail this afternoon!

Up to my usual antics...got some goodies coming in 3-6 weeks. ;)

Rear end addition
I fitted these, I was going to get a face-lift rear bumper, but decided on this in the end.

Put "Hi -Ho" (Hi-Ho Silver Awaaayyyy!!!) into hibernation. Had an oil change (nothing showed up in the filter), put it on a battery tender, pumped up the tires, put on the cover, gave it a hug and left it for the winter.

I added the rear speakers a few weeks ago.

Last drive / wash of the season, then I've put the car in storage for the Montreal winter (4-5 months).
I already miss the car |
Drove her..........hard.
Penultimate "Sunday Drive" of the season. Just happened to fall on a Saturday. 40F, 10 mph wind. Guys with PS2s were feelin' the difference in grip. Two miles of gravel ; caught up with the drive group in front of us. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1416119733.jpg PCA Maverick Region reserved a glassblowing demonstration for us: Vetro Glassblowing Then a great meal at Café Italia. Ordered new boots for the Boxster from the local Discount Tire shop.
Four Cooper Zeon RS-3As; total cost out the door $477.83 which includes mounting, lifetime spin balancing, rotation and repair, disposal and sales tax. I still have decent tread on my current fronts, but the rears are getting a little too worn for comfort. I got 28,000 miles on this set of RS-3As, and that includes several DEs, rallies, "Sunday Drives", Boxstoberfests and PCA Paloozas. I suppose I could have driven a few more months on the current set, but I really feel that November is the best time to buy new tires. Cool temps, and it's always great to have maximum tread depth for the winter. The Coopers are not Pilots, but they wear well, are quiet, and offer decent grip, even in the wet. Plus they work at temps below 40°. There's a 40,000 mile warranty on these tires, so when I return for a new set, I'll get a prorate on new tires. I've been going to Discount Tire for 20 years now, and they've always treated me great, especially with the free rotation and balancing every time I bring one of our cars in. In fact, the only time I have to open my wallet is when I purchase new tires. Just sayin'......... TO |

For me, just drove the Boxster to work, which is a normal day. BUT, I still get cheers and thumbs up when I past an elementary school:dance: |

They get very hot and should be on a heat sink, but tere isn't room inside the dome light, so I decided to just run them at half power. I removed the stock resistor, wired the two together in parallel and used a 75ohm, 2W resistor to run them at about 60% power. Even at 60% power, they are plenty bright with a nice even white light distribution. http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...E6431E7691.jpg http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...597F8E4276.jpg |
I replaced the old tires which came on the car with Hankook Ventus V12s. What a difference.

Rear Window Cleaned
I used Novus 1-2-3 to spiff up my rear plastic window. I don't think the inside had ever been cleaned and it turned out great! I'll probably hit it again with the fine scratch remover and polish to see if it improves it more.

Replaced the starter motor with a rebuilt unit from Pelican Parts.
The original starter was "hanging up" on the ring gear for a second or two causing it to howl - not a nice sound in the main street.... Checked the knock sensors, AOS and cleaned the throttle body & inlet manifolds while everything was apart. I stripped the old starter motor & planetary gears apart, cleaned the commutator, freed up the brushes and greased the bearings and sliding shaft. Bench tested for a couple of minutes and a dozen starts and all OK. Instead of sending the starter back to Pelican for the $85 core charge I've put the rebuilt starter motor in the workshop cupboard for a spare. Hot and humid @ 30 deg C - I was just thankfull I was in the shade - I should really get an air conditioner for the garage..... |
Drove it to the supermarket. I`m making Sunday gravy on a Sat.Needed the ingredients .
|
Picked it up from the body shop.....complete paint job:D

Cost of Alberta work....
Are you happy with the work? I am also in Alberta and am curious what the price was of this endeavour and where it was done? I am curious and looking into purchasing new body parts soon and having them painted. You can private message me if you'd like. TIA
