Yeah, it wasn't a completely serious statement.
That said, my brothers Yaris has over 200k on the clock and still purrs like a kitten. If you are referring to looks, it's very average looking, which is right up my alley for a daily driver. But, I'm not superficial or a brand fanboy, so all I'm looking for is something 5-10 years old, under 75k miles, and good reliability/gas mileage.

My girl thinks I'm nuts, but I just re-enrolled at the university at the age of 37. I need a school car and soon. I won't park the 986 on campus ever again...darn door dings.

amagalla 07-06-2015 10:39 AM

Changed:
IMS
RMS
clutch
flywheel
Trans fluid
AOS

Added:
LN spin on oil filter adapter
Manzo muffler/TopSpeed test pipe

Took it for a drive. What a difference!

I still have a dilemma, though: my DD is about ready for retirement and I just can't drive the Box every day.

A+ to what Bruce already said bud :/

In fact, go ahead with the sale. You'll be able to drive it again as much as you want in a few(neg) years. Yesterday the Science Daily reported that an university research team was able to visualize the wave behavior of a particle under room temperature for the first time in history.

With an Alias like yours Charles, I bet you can't wait to see how this negative probabilistic wave looks like

ps. midnight drive out... or should I say escapes. My favorite

04 coolant cap and a pair of Ultimate Cupholders arrived today.

ReallyDirtyThirty 07-17-2015 04:25 AM

With the assistance of great guy and fellow forum member truegearhead, I did the GT3 console conversion on my car.

OH MY GOD does this make driving the car better. There is a lot more room now. Great mod for anyone over 6 feet tall!

At 6'4" I will confirm that. Way more comfortable and I can heel and toe without being in a awkward position with my leg.

Smog Test today... Passed with flying colors. Over 280,000 miles on the Jӓgermobile.

Jamesp 07-17-2015 05:51 PM

"Installed" Shehadehd's comfort top replacement relay. Works like a champ, highly recommended. Its friggin fantastic to have the flexibility to put the top up or down at any speed under about 20 mph with one touch operation and the ability to drive off while the top does its stuff. Installed is in quotes because its about as hard as plugging in a lamp.

BoxsterSteve 07-17-2015 05:51 PM

Horror of horrors... I drove mine in the rain and it's been outside for a whole week and the world hasn't ended yet. :D

Giller 07-17-2015 09:05 PM

Finally stopped long enough to take a picture. Still miss the rawness of my 02 Boxster, but have to admit, liking the more refined 987 more and more everyday. They more they change, the more they stay the same.

I used Maguires black plastic restore on all of the plastic. Then I put the finishing touches on my headlight restore. While the mothers kit was great for getting the surface into good condition, the duplicolor really made the shine. I highly recommend that as a two step process. Personally, I think that it's easier to take the headlights out to do this.

Thanks for the tip KRAM!!

Looks good cardiffgiant. I used the mothers kit to restore my headlights too, but I also used Dupli-Color's headlight sealer uv protectant. Mothers is better for the restore than the Dupli-Color, but the headlight protectant is much better in the Dupli-Color kit. You might look into getting it, to protect your headlights better.

Installed new brake pads on all for corners. $24 shipped and 1.5 hours of my time ;)
I've got a slight lip on my rotors, but decided that it's not enough to worry about just yet. I'll get them resurfaced or replaced in the spring.

Coffinhunter 07-18-2015 05:03 PM

Yesterday got new tires for the rear. Today, "cleaned" the headlight switch, so the lights come on every time!

Yesterday I was 3500 miles into the 9th day of what was supposed to be a 10 day road trip stopped at a distillery in Lawrenceburg KY and coolant was running out. Open the trunk and see it's bubbling through the reservoir cap.

Closest dealer is in Louisville, so I your the distillery to let it cool down a bit. Then I head out, keeping a watchful eye on the temperature. In the middle of nowhere, it spikes up to max. I immediately pull over and call for help.

Sheriff arrives 15 minutes later, and I wait another 45 for the tow truck. The tow to Louisville cost $270, and the a/c quit 20 miles away. Got to the dealer 15 minutes before they closed.
The finance man gave me a ride to the airport to rent a car. I am driving a Nissan Note

Hope they can get it fix tomorrow and it's "minimal" $.

Big things! Got some spill over from Cars & Coffee at my place this weekend. Drove that 2009 Viper SRT 10, turned the A3 over to 200,000 miles and realized the Box is the best all around car I've ever owned.

I saw PW's beautiful car, then gave the dark and dirty 99 a midnight bath.

...Then realized that it's going to take a lot more than a wash to get it right. Promised to put the Gunmetal Vivo headlights in next week and finish re-painting her when the weather cools down.

There are 3 or 4 tiny rock chips! :D
I don't drive it nearly as much as I'd like. I've put about 12k miles on it in the 4 years that I've had it. :(

I pulled the front bumper and cleaned the rads. I found many leaves, a small bucket of sand and a dozen smokes. Definitely worth the hour spent.

kk2002s 07-20-2015 07:58 AM

Got to do a shakeout drive yesterday
Drove about 3-1/2 hours 200+ miles in the 90-95 degree heat top down
I just recently changed my air filter, replaced my AOS hose to throttle body (Oil seeping out on the throttle body side), cleaned my radiators, oil change, Sump inspection

I was getting 30+ MPG on the highway, 25-27 on back roads twisties. Temp was rock steady

I'm planning 1800+ mile trip in 2 weeks and needed to make sure all was well
Heading down Skyline drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway then back up Blue Ridge Parkway

Finally had some free time to fit my GT3 front bumper and eBay mkII side skirts. Side skirts fit but still need a little adjusting to be 100% perfect. I'm hoping I have some free time next week to start paint... Thank you again to fellow members Lcrivers816 and ParticleWave for the great deals & Nine8six for designing such an awesome LED windscreen!

After getting them all polished and waxed up I installed used smoked OEM (2003 version) tails. These replaced clear DEPOs that I think were just a little too modern and bling for my taste. Some may think me nuts to go back to old school, and get rid of DEPOs, but with my color and this model year car I think I have finally achieved the best look goin (in my opinion anyway). In the last year Ive purchased smoked OEM side markers, smoked/clear OEM headlights and finally smoked OEM tails. I might do something different with the 3rd tail but so far still pondering what to do with that. DEPO pic included for comparisons.

I don't think you are nuts at all! I have thought of doing the same. The fact that I can not get both of the two red lights(for brakes) on the DEPO's to light at the same time bothers me. I may do the same and find a nice set of the non amber OEM tail lights. The change looks great!

He installed the special special anti-matter bra that Fred developed

Got the top replaced. Ordered from auto tops direct, Sierra top. Looks really nice now and the glass rear window is a really nice upgrade. As others have said. Makes the car look nearly new.

I just came back last Friday from there! Did the Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, and Moonshine 28. Stayed in Robbinsville, NC. Amazing driving roads…you will like it. Watch for downed trees and debris if there is a rain storm, the roads get covered in branches, twigs and leaves. Also, bring brake fluid…I wore my brake pads down and had to add brake fluid.

Good idea. I have been watching the weather and hoping for minimal rain
How was Johnny Law on the Tail. I'm trying to hit that on a Tuesday, missing weekend crowds

Had a CEL for over a year from faulty secondary air system and had it repaired yesterday so no more irritating CEL light. My mechanic noticed the same squeaky noise I've been hearing and found the number four plug had not been torqued down so he fixed that. On the drive home from Campbell I swear the car had at least 10 more hp.

alm001 07-24-2015 07:34 AM

Started removing some parts:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/0o...4=w947-h533-no

My nav system was wired differently than the pinouts I found online. specifically the line outs to the amplifier were NOT on plug C.

Anyone want to buy a PMC/NAV/Changer?

EJ-Fresno 07-24-2015 07:41 AM
