Cigarette lighter replacement

I'm a new owner to a boxster '01 (and new to this site). Know it's been asked before, but haven't been able to find it here. Need to replace cigarette lighter. Can anyone offer simple instructions? Thanks.

to replace, just pry up the panel starting at the bottom right using a butter knife or trim panel removal tool covered w/ electrical tape (to prevent scratching the trim). Then disconnect the plug and push both the lighter receptacle and white/clear lighted trim ring from the back out the front side. For the new one, insert lighted trim ring first and then the lighter receptacle w/ new light housing in place and connect plug. That's it!

Part #s needed are:
996-652-101-10-A05 Socket
996-652-102-10 Lighted retaining ring

Combined these will run ~ $15 from either Sunset (Beaverton, OR) or Suncoast (Sarasota, FL) plus frt.

PS - Welcome to 986forum and enjoy your stay

Probably easier to stop smoking

I took out the ligher and plugged mines up. My kids kept playing with it and I didn't want them getting burned.

I use mine for the battery maintainer. I took the wife's X5 glovebox 12V plug and insert it in the lighter hole when out of the garage.

The BMW plug does not match the switches, but is very close to the matt black horse collar.

Oh yeah. WELCOME!!!

Where did you find that cover? I'm looking for something similar to that. Thanks.
