Washed the wheels as they were looking gross. :(

kk2002s 05-13-2013 07:11 AM

Replaced Front Motor Mount. Biggest fear, the old would be in perfect shape. It wasn't, as it was torn and cracked all around the rubber so replacement was needed. It is a tedious job in tight spaces. While trying to get the top (2) bolts (Hardest part) of the engine mount out, I just kept repeating what Pedro's write up suggest here, Be Patient. All in all about 5 hours.

- As is my way, after I buttoned it all up, lower the car, I look over in the corner of my garage and there is the Foam support that goes up in the center tunnel. I debated just leaving it out but wanted it right so had re-jack and support, take down the mid-cover and pop it back in.

- Car drives a little better but not a night and day thing.

- my hand are still sore a couple days later - Sucks getting old

EricF 05-13-2013 06:29 PM

Took some Mother's polish to my grimy, yellowed headlights this afternoon. Pictures don't do it justice, but I'd say it made a pretty significant dent for only 30 or so minutes of work.

This will have to hold me over until I can swap in a new pair of upgraded headlights.

Replaced My Water Pump

I replaced my water pump... Again. A 1/4" drive 10mm deep well socket is your friend for this job.

Johnny Danger 05-13-2013 06:43 PM

What condition was the bearing in ?

BruceH 05-13-2013 06:50 PM

Killed some bugs fast:D Beautiful night here in Texas, enjoying the top down before it gets too hot! I guess tomorrow I will have to wash it!

ccstud17 05-14-2013 07:12 AM

Went for a spirited drive in the foothills... and ended my day/night with this

Made another car payment today, but it's money well spent.

woodsman 05-15-2013 10:05 AM

ha ha made another car payment:D
I took apart two struts! Was difficult to get the nut off (!) both of them- even broke a tool or 2. Picked up my fr carriers from mechanic with new bearings pressed in and the kit to repair the stripped caliper mount thread in one of them-all in $300. ( if only I had read that thread about the Casper wheel bearing removal tool sooner) Researched, located and ordered the remote clamping tool from Sears for the oil-fill tube job ($35 plus ship. - $48) . I spend more time researching, locating and buying parts/ tools than pulling on good 'ol fashioned wrenches!!! I need to drive that car again!:( maybe I'll drive it without the bypass pipes and muffler!!hee hee cheap thrills what the hay, I'm 48 TODAY!!

BruceH 05-15-2013 10:18 AM

Happy Birthday Woodsman! I explained to my kids a long time ago, it doesn't matter new or used, wether it is paid off or not, you always have a car payment!

I drove around topless (Hahaha)and had all the female population staring at me. It was such a nice day in So Cal, so it had to be done.

That's funny, when I do that, the women don't look at me . . .

Drove it

I drove the new 981 S everywhere today. My 3 year old said, once she got in it, "Oh daddy, this is so nice!". Then proceeded to ask me to make the daddy Porsche Vrooom over and over again.

She is hooked already!

Aqua Blue under a Carolina blue sky... nothing better!

Gorgeous! The front end of those 981s sure are mean looking!

I took the day off today - perfect opportunity to get some beach time in.

I took the day off too! I had a dental appointment first thing this morning, then I received a report from a friend that the R Group was having a Meet this weekend in Buellton, so I drove the Jägermobile to Buellton (a small town south of where I live) to see what was happening.

I installed the oil-fill tube, a job that prevented installing the engine by about 4 days while I waited for the tube and remote clamping pliers to arrive. What a wonderous tool that--Sears has them for $35 I don't know how i'd have done the job without them. Saw them in a thread here about replacement of the coolant overflow-many thanks:D

Jager 05-18-2013 03:09 PM

Drove the Jägermobile up to Morro Bay (a small town a few minutes north of where I live), reliable sources said that there was a 356 North and South Meet there today. On my way I saw allot of those “R Group” guys on the freeway and about a dozen 356s zipping down the road.

Drove out to Montauk, Eastern tip of Long Island.
Traffic in the Hamptons was horrible, but we got a nice tan!

Cool pics Jäger!

Porsche Chick 05-19-2013 04:04 PM

Awesome pics, Jager! Thanks for posting those.

I am starting to consider one of those old 356's . . .

cas951 05-19-2013 08:28 PM

Did some waxing today. Two coats. Polish/Wax. Amazing how a black car comes out so much shinier than the white one.

Picked up my car from Ekston in Rochester.
-LN IMS
-RMS
-AOS
-Clutch and DMFW
-Oil change
-Coolant flush
-Nearly a box full of leaves and trash were removed from behind the radiators

Ate at Dinosaur BBQ and had a pretty amazing ride back to Buffalo with the top down.

Coffinhunter 05-21-2013 06:09 AM

Drove to work this morning. Now I get to look forward to driving home!!!! Love having her as my DD!

woodsman 05-21-2013 11:19 AM

finished pulling the second rear suspension out. Everything seems solid so I handed them to a mechanic to install the new bearings- and wow are those some BEARINGS!! ( good value at $60 each @ Sunset). This is the turning point- now I only INSTALL- tranny, suspension, brakes and tires:dance: I WILL DRIVE THAT CAR AGAIN!! I MUST, I MUST ...

Greybush 05-21-2013 05:49 PM

I changed out the amber side markers for the euro version.

I removed the alternator. I feared the worst but it came out easier than I hoped....now I just wait for the replacement to arrive.

tortoise944 05-22-2013 05:14 AM

Drove it to work

After 5 days of on and off rain, we finally get a nice warm, sunny day. So, I got to drive it to work! After 5 days of driving the minivan, it was a great feeling to get back behind the wheel of the 981 S.

woodsman 05-22-2013 09:57 AM

what a beautiful car tortise944.
Dropped rear struts and disassembled-they're definitely newer than the front 2

thom4782 05-22-2013 06:05 PM

Changed the oil today. I switched to Motul 5-40 from Mobil 1 0-30. . It may be a placebo like effect, but it seems to me that the engine is quieter on starts and while running. Anybody else had find the same?

CoBeerToad 05-22-2013 06:28 PM

Finally replaced the pin that connects to the rod that controls the convertible top. What a pain, but I feel better having both rods now and not having to guide one side up or down.

Spinnaker 05-26-2013 12:40 AM

Flushed the brake fluid and changed out the rear pads. Caught it just in time, one pad was worn down to where the wear sensor was just starting to get rubbed on.

greenheckler 05-26-2013 08:07 AM

Painted my nuts and cleaned the areas in between. :D

Thought I'd be smart and put the incredibly expensive (Porsche, of course!) oil in my trans BEFORE installing and found that it no longer pivots nicely on the spear like thing on the underside now. I'm using just a floorjack to raise it into position and removed the jack pad and sat that spear right in the hole! Worked like a charm pulling it out but need a counterbalancing mechanic's wire arrangement going in. Then I noticed that the release bearing pops out of the arm too easily- the inner sides where the bearing clips into are worn by about 0.01" on each side-oh no!!! I ordered a new one and it'll take about a week to get it! (Porsche, of course!) My Toyota's have a spring-steel clip the size of my thumb on either side of the bearing support and are 100 times stronger and weigh just a few ounces more. 0.010" of wear shouldn't matter and can be the differeince between reliable and not- in a Porsche!!! Marvel of engineering that...

BYprodriver 05-26-2013 11:12 AM

Drove my Box out to CA Speedway to the Porsche Roadshow event.

Got to drive the 2014 Cayman S & 991 4S on the infield course up to 100 mph!
Both these cars are so smooth & ride very nice! :)

Izman1000 05-26-2013 02:16 PM

Drove to the Jersey shore to check our rental property for this summer's vacation. An hour and fifteen minutes each way all by myself with some quality alone time down at the beach. I hit 120 MPH a few times on the ride and had some fun. With brand new Michelins put on a few weeks ago, the ride was awesome!

cardiffgiant 05-26-2013 02:43 PM

Washed, replaced cabin air filter, replaced gas cap, and cleaned the drain holes. The fronts were really bad, completely clogged with dirt.

Then we took it out for a spirited drive with the top down :) What a blast!!

Appleguy 05-27-2013 01:16 PM

Bought this for the boxster today...

Now off to the paint shop to get it color matched!

sailing1 05-27-2013 02:16 PM

Put new tires on the Boxster and gave the GTO an oil and filter change. The Boxster is ready for weekend fun on the twisty's and Big Red is all set for the summer Rod Runs and burning a little rubber!
