It's cloudy, rainy, and gloomy, so my son suggested that I get my Porsche fix the same way he does ;)

lol, I do the same thing on Gran Turismo as they have Porsche (RUF) cars on there too, with the Boxster being one of them. :)

Particlewave; Which game is that? I have't seen that one!

Replaced my Driver's side window regulator. Works like new, and I only had one unexplained bolt left over.

It's the only game I've found with actual Porsches(most have RUF). |
Yesterday was on a mountain drive with the PCA club in San Diego. Suddenly my wife yells out, there's smoke coming out the back. Low and behold I see lot of white smoke and pull over. Immediate thoughts of oil burning!!!
Fortunately one of the group leaders saw me and stopped. Needed his fire extinguisher for a small spot of oil burning. No damage from it thankfully. Recently I just did my IMS and RMS, so I immediately thought something I did failed. So AAA came to the rescue and towed us home about 60 miles. Got the car off the bed of the truck and started up just fine. But felt no steering. Turns out it was the Power Steering fluid that was smoking and not the engine oil  Turns out its a common problem when you install aftermarket headers. Seems the pressure line for the power steering tends to rest up against the header. The heat melted the hose and cause it to leak. Advice to everyone who had aftermarket headers - check the driver's side and make sure the power steering hose is NOT resting against the header. So today, I had the pleasure of removing the hose. Not hard, but not easy. You have to loose the AC compressor so you can wiggle the PS line from behind it. So hopefully I will have the replacement hose this week so I can get her back together. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1371344761.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1371344800.jpg |
Be careful with any spilled power steering fluid, it eats anything rubber.
|
Repaired the rear of the top, as the adhesive strips holding it to the bottom bow had let loose. Now the back of the canvas is taut again, and I actually had a little difficulty closing it. It looks much, much better. :D

evo-r, if you want to update the look of your front end,
Plasti Dip the strakes in your radiator openings. I love the look on mine. |
Darn it...Google maps car just went by and I didn't have the Box out :(
Now my house will be shown on street view with my beat up '98 Neon in the driveway :p |
Das sieht gut aus MUMP. :) ;)

Finally removed the top. Absolutely love the way it looks. Here are a few pictures.

I had a very strange thing happen to me today... My wife and I took a drive to a countryside park, about 30 minutes from the house, just to get-out and enjoy the day. As we pulled into the park this guy comes running over to the Jägermobile and tells us to park in the parking lot on the left. I thought to myself this is very strange, maybe he's a Park Ranger in civilian clothing or something?? So I park the car in the left parking lot as directed and as we were stepping-out of the Jägermobile there were approximately 30 Porsches pulling into the same parking lot behind us! It was the Santa Barbara chapter of the PCA on a Poker Run. I had no idea of that event was going-on today. Needless to say I had to talk to a few Porsche owners, all of them saying to join the club.

Changed my oil. I saved a ton of money by getting Mobil 1 for $22 for 5 quarts.

Noticed a flyer in the local Pep Boys describing a car show in town today. After a short detail job, I swung by the show with my Boxster and entered her in the import class.
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372038999.jpg Over 90 entrants; there sure was a lot of fine Dee-Troit iron there today, and a healthy field of imports too. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/4401372039052.jpg In the end, though, the Boxster took home 1st in class. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372039103.jpg Awesome, baby! Yeah! :) http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1372039145.jpg TO |
Today was the annual 'All Porsche Show' for Nord Stern, the local PCA chapter, and it is held less than 10 miles from my house. The focus this year was all years of the 356, but there were Porsches of all years and models, including a couple tractors.

Nice TO!
Congratulations :D |
Changed front control arms ( get rid of the noise on left hand turns), drained and changed coolant of the cooling system and took off the front bumper to clean the radiators. Mine were'nt as bad as I've seen posted here but there were rocks, leaves and a dead bird in the radiators!

Hey! Is that your Boxster in that last pic? That's my car on the right side of that photo. Cheers!

Pennsylvania Trolley Museum
We drove our 2000 black base Boxster from Cleveland to Washington Pa (150 miles) for a weekend at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. It was terrific. It was a hot ride back with the top down and temps in the 90's but the car ran well. The new hoses and water pump and low temp thermostat I installed this Spring must be working.

There was a pretty good turn out given the rain in the morning, but the Carrera GT I have seen in past years wasn't there. Hope you enjoyed the day. |
Took the Porsche up to see a castle overlooking the village. The place was empty so I snapped a few pics.

Over the weekend:
LED license plate lights (will make a DIY on this with specific products, because it came out perfect, and I've done a lot of "setups" over the years.) New motor mount - huge difference 03+ tail light conversion - looks so much newer Top Speed pro 1 catback - had to add some washers to keep it from rubbing the heat shield , but I love it. Could be louder in some conditions, but my neighbors would be pissed. At certain RPMs it's very loud. Oil change - Mobile 1 10w-40. It's already 100+ degrees out every day here. GoPro - bought for capturing hill country cruises. Today: Figure out why my top won't go back up. Install new drop in filter and remove snorkel On the way: Center cap replacements Porsche flag for the garage to add to the collection. :D |
I attempted to install Jay Senoff's wind deflector on my '05 S on Saturday. After 20 minutes of trying to drill a hole in my roll bar I gave up. Took it to the shop this morning and they are doing it at a charge of about 1.5 hours. Also getting a 120k major service done while it's there.
On the plus side, I took the car over to the Malibu hills and ran through the canyons there. First time really putting the car through its paces. Love the sound of that engine revving up past 5k rpms. My girlfriend says it sounds like a racecar! I have to agree. I'll post pics of the installed wind deflector when I get the car back. |

Wish I could be there; there are no castles in Texas, and the land is basically flat.....................for hundreds of miles. TO |
I gave mine a thorough wash last night, and now it looks so much nicer. :D

Fixed A/C issue, thanks fellow members for the tips!

My date yelled out to watch for the curb.I was checking her out and not watching the road---- almost messed up! lol
|
Gave it a little exercise... hit 120 on one of those crazy 2 lane roads out here in the middle of nowhere where the road stretches out in front of you seemingly forever, enabling you to see everything in front of you for a mile or two. Car was dead solid and stable, no drama. What a joy to drive this car!
