Drove 300 miles round trip to see my girlfriend for her birthday while she is back home for the summer. Boxster didn't skip a beat and enjoyed steady high speeds at times.
|
Changed accessory belt, air filter, cabin filter, oil & oil filter, and transaxle fluid plus checked brake & power steering fluid plus coolant. basically the 60,000 mile service.
Amazing how the car feels better when you do the work yourself. |

Put my baby back together - it was 97 F here today (hotter than the sun!), so I am ready for a nice long shower!
The new (for me/pre-owned) replacement bumper arrived today around noon in good shape via freight. Gave the inside a good scrub before mounting it up on the car. Took some juggling to get both sides seated (was doing this alone) but once the top corners were in place the rest fell right in line. After all bumper cover fasteners were in place I gave the whole thing an intense scrubbing with McGuires Paint scrubber (to remove old wax and any swirls in the clear coat) then hit it with some quick wax before bolting the trim stuff up (bumperettes, license plate). It actually looks better than it did before the accident. Well, except for the gash in that back wheel... |

Thanks for the share...and the affirmation. I also recently purchased my very clean 2000 S (four weeks ago) and had a similar experience during a "last day of school ice cream" sandwich delivery to my wife's school this past Thursday. As I made a left into the school parking lot, I could see two boys standing where I expected to meet two of my wife's 5th grade students. The boys must have been told to look for a Porsche because they seemed to recognize me immediately even though I had never met these particular students. When I got close enough to see their eyes, I nearly laughed out loud at the sight of their glazed, seemingly magical reaction to the car. They looked as if they had spotted the girl of their dreams but she could only be viewed as a reflection in every admired feature of this Porsche. Love, desire, admiration, and barely contained excitement beamed from their mesmerized, worshipping eyes. Their gaze transfixed from the moment they spotted the rare, perhaps one-of-a-kind Zenith Blue German beauty. Her sight made even more special on this Japanese-car-infested-island of Okinawa. Yet, even though these boys had only been walking this Earth for perhaps 10 years, they wisely and immediately recognized that they should appreciate this fleeting moment to the fullest; and, that they'd want to share as many details as possible with friends later: but, this moment, though shared, could not have been a more personal religious-like experience. The turn that brought her into their line of sight, the U-turn directly in front of them, the ice-cream hand-off from inside the car, took perhaps 60 seconds, yet I confidently gleaned all that from their glazed-eyed, stunned stances that persisted even in my rear-view mirror as I drove away. I understood what they experienced from the look they wore because I wore a similar one every time I saw a beautiful Porsche before owning one: and, now, I get to wear one at least a few religious moments every day. Divine works of art indeed. |

Sadly, I sold her today. And on Father's Day no less. :(
I'd driven her less and less since buying the Lotus. The buyer noticed from my log book that the last time I gassed her up was in October. But the sunny weather is finally here in the Northwest and I'm going to miss the top down experience. Never could have survived ownership without this forum. Many thanks to all that contribute. I'm in a forum for each of my cars and this one is by far the most active and helpful. Kind regards to all, Glen |
Took my '03 S in for a pre-tech inspection checkup for my first HDPE that will be next month. Didn't want to go to the Tech Inspection 10 days before the event and find out something needed attention. Plus the Tech Inspection says the brake fluid needs to be flushed at least once a year so had my brake fluid flushed and bled, brakes inspected and front center motor mount removed inspected. At 59,000 miles and almost 13 years old I was expecting the motor mount to be torn but it is in perfect shape! Unfortunately I had one incident where it starting misfiring last week. They checked the codes and I'm also getting new plugs and coil packs. In the next two weekends I'll change to my 18 inch wheels and put the BK rollbar extension on.

Today I left my Boxster at the shop to get the brake fluid replaced. It boiled during my last track day and I discovered that it's something to avoid. Going with ATE Typ 200, which is the replacement for the discontinued ATE Racing Blue.

plasti dip experiment...
painted my wheel barrels red with gold metalizer from plasti-dip.
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02/w11466539916.jpg Gonna finish the face of the wheel white today with glossifier. Until than, her ass stays in the air  http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02/w21466540028.jpg |
Before:
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1467017827.jpg After: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1467017848.jpg GT3 brake ducts installed. I've also replaced the wheels, since the front wheels were very worn in the inside. I found a set of second hand ones with the exact same rims that I had before and nearly brand new tyres. All of this was actually done yesterday. Last week I got the brake fluid replaced with ATE Typ 200. Today I went to get a wheel alignment, since the wear on the front tyres suggested way too much toe out, which turned out to be the case. That is now in order, but the guy in the shop wasn't very confident when it came to fixing the exaggerated negative camber, so that's not taken care of yet. |
Yesterday afternoon I installed my new to me Brey Krause roll bar extension for the first time, didn't want to find out something was missing or it didn't work next weekend since tech inspection is on July 5th. I bought it used, asked Brey Krause where to get some of the protective tape and they sent me two pieces for free so I didn't need to buy a whole roll of it. Everything worked fine. The hardest part was getting the pads off the roll bar hoops without marring the paint.
Then I installed my 18 inch wheels. Now the car is ready for my first HDPE at Mosport! |
Installed the Proxel rear proximity sensor. Easy install, no drilling required, and if I pay attention, I won't back into my truck.

On Saturday, I took time to fix a slight squeak from the rear passenger side when coming to a stop. Did some reading on it and general consensus is that it's an accumulation of brake dust.
Removed the wheel and rear pads. Man those are in there tight. I was able to use a clamp to move them away from the rotor and then read a tip in Wayne's book on using a screwdriver for leverage to pop them out. The rears probably have 50%left and also had antisqueal shims installed. The pads were labelled brembo. I cleaned the vent holes in the rotor with brake cleaner and compressed air (wore an n95 mask) cleaned the brake dust out of the callipers. Put new antisqueal paste on the back of the pads and shims and greased the ear where the pads rest in the callipers. Lubed the surface of the clip that hold the pads in as well as the retaining pin. So nice to work on a car that hasn't seen corrosion from our cdn winters. Decided to remove all 4 wheels and give the insides a clean as well to remove the brake dust on the rims. Did a quick wipe down of the paint with meguair's quick detailer. And put tire dressing on all 4 tires. Shiny, non squeaky ride for the rest of the weekend. Sent from my LG-D852 using Tapatalk |
Picked up new tires from tirerack

Installed GPS double DIN head unit. Makes it feel like a modern car.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I...DSC05914ps.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-j...DSC05915ps.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-M...DSC05920ps.jpg Been a busy month since I bought her. Started out with all the regular maintenance items, tires, oil/filter change, air and cabin filter, serpentine belt and spark plugs. Then came the little fixes, LCD screen for climate control, horn fix, visor mirror replacements, paintless dent removal, AOS. Then the fun stuff, desnorkel, polish lettering off lights and this radio. Then the not so fun stuff when a convertible top connector snapped and dented the clamshell. That was parts and more paintless dent removal. :-( In between lots of driving. Put about 1,500 miles on it so far. |
Love that head unit. Was it easy to move the aircon/heater unit?
Does your car have a factory amp fitted? I hear it's not easy to change the head unit if it has an amp fitted from the factory and that you'd have to bypass the amp first. Ken 🚘 |
Walked by mine in the garage after returning from work, and admired the cover...

It was relatively simple but a lot of sweat to cut the console and thread the wires. Now I've gone and bought the rear speakers so I have to figure out what to do with what is probably a 4 channel amp when I need a 6 channel. Might power them from the head unit or replace the amp with a 6 channel. |

Can anyone confirm this? Ken 🚘 |
Road trip down and back up the Skyline Drive. 700 miles round trip
This time it was wife and me. I've done it several times solo Finally got to see some Bears. Driving with the wife forces me to slow down and see the world around me "your going to Fast - Slow Down" http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1467210781.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1467210791.jpg In a convertible - Day before we just missed Mom and 2 cubs I started to think - What if I came up to cubs crossing in front of me, then look behind and see Mommy walking up? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1467210804.jpg |
What did you do with/to your Boxster today?
Cool, Kk!
I hear you about being with your wife. We just drove a 200 section of the BRP, and she kept telling me to slow down so she could see and hear the wildlife' and see the scenery. I'm like "you do realize we are in a Porsche on the BRP, right?" But that 200 miles took us 8 hours.....happy wife, happy life! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
New Steering Wheel & Top Speed Exhaust

On a MOST setup you will need a new headunit and amplifier and new wiring for all. I think it is possible to just use a new HU and wire your speakers to the HU but it will need to be wired. I bought the HU/Amp/Wiring as a kit and it was almost PnP. It came from CAI-Innovations and was expensive but it just went in and worked. Plenty of DIYs for doing it without the expensive harnesses on the web.

Changed Engine Mount and Made Custom Support Stops
Smoother upshifting especially between first and second and smoother downshifting especially from 3rd to 2nd.
Interesting that the clapping sounds during shifts actually got louder with the new engine mount. Suggest following Pedro's DIY instructions as you definitely want to remove the four bolts holding the yoke before removing the engine mount bolts and installing the new mount. Had to make some custom support stops because Pelican sent me the older version of stops for the older version engine mount. Having a four post ramp lift with an additional motor/transmission jack really made the job less difficult. Highly suggest using/purchasing ratcheting wrenches for the tight spaces where socket wrenches won't fit. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1467459448.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1467459569.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1467459633.jpg |

More Expensive Bits of German Plastic
Swapped out the ashtray for the cubby. Swapped out the euro for the US spec lighter so my GPS plugged quits falling out. And swapped out the radiator cap. No more slimy coolant residue on the bottom of the trunk lid.

I purchased my 2001 "S" on Sunday June 5th and when it was delivered I changed out the serpentine belt, did an oil change, changed the fuel filter, cabin air filter, drained and refilled the 6 speed transaxle, replaced the center console with a great used piece. Installed 4 new oxygen sensors and a few days ago, had a LN Engineering IMSB kit installed, new pressure plate, disk, throw out bearing, front motor mount along with a new coolant tank and cap. I'm waiting for spark plugs and spark plug tubes to arrived and while I have my car on my lift I'm going to have the rotors turned and replace the brake fluid. Today I removed the MAF and used some of that MAF spray cleaner then re-installed that piece. I had no maintenance records so basically I'm doing a 60,000 service and know that it's done.
