				Engine swap ?

Has anyone here ever done an engine swap in a 1998 boxster ?
I am considering this because of the decreasing availability of 2.5l parts.

Thinking about a complete engine and trans swap to a 3.2l with 6 speed .

Also the car itself is in great shape. Wanting to also get a bit more performance from it.

Thanks,'

Sell your car and buy a Boxster S. Swapping is a money losing exercise.
1998 Boxster base in decent shape should bring $6,000-ish. A 2000 Boxster S can be had for $8,500 all day. A Boxster S engine is going to run you $5,000. Plus, while you're at it you will want to replace the intermediate shaft bearing, rear main seal, clutch disk - at a minimum.

Then, you will still have the regular Boxster brakes and not the bigger S/911 brakes, and the other 'S' specific parts.

Good luck!

Dave

Huh? I have two spare engines sitting in my workshop. Each cost less than $2750. Direct swap, no parts need to be moved. 2.5L engines are plentiful, easy, and cheap to find.

Personally i think it's cheaper to sell the 2.5 and buy a 3.2.
And if you really want more power there are some V6 and V8 options at the same or much higher costs than a 3.2. Don't forget that you have to adapt and add a lot of parts to put a 3.2 in.

And if you want to stay with a Porsche engine and want to have much more power, than this is the way to go – but for the money you again can buy a much newer car with lots of hp:

The most practical swap with diy I have seen (& linked ) was Audi V6TT on Piston Heads.

He would probably need to in order to just break even. We had a customer do a Mezger turbo in a 986; by the time he was done, he had spent more than a new turbo car would cost.

Can't say better, JAAY's car is beautiful, fairly priced, and already swapped with a 3.4!

Very true, and it would be much cheaper to sell the 98 and buy JAAY's car than try to do the swap in a 98.

Installing an eGas motor in a 98 is quite a task....
 But my 3.6 runs great!
