Someone stated earlier that there is a second switch used for cruise control and allowing throttle blips while downshifting.

Correct, The clutch has two switches, one that activates when you first start to press the clutch, that deactivates cruise control.

The 2nd switch activates with the clutch pedal is fully depressed.

These are notorious on Caymans for failing, I have to replace mine....
