Bypassing clutch safety switch
 

Did a search and couldn't find an answer:

I'm old school and totally hate the clutch safety switch (requiring you to push the clutch pedal to start the car) Years ago, I had some small pickup trucks with this switch and I just pulled the switch wires and wired them together and never had any other issues do to that 'fix" When I'm working on the car and need to start the engine, I have to get into the car then press the clutch to start. I'd rather just reach into the car, turn the key and start the engine. (I know the purpose of the switch and why it's there (forced safety) and I always park with the transaxle in neutral so starting in gear isn't an issue.

Has anyone permanently disabled the switch by affixing both wires together without any other issues popping up?

You can load the ROW tune and it not only allows headers without a CEL (You can remove the front cats because the Euro tune doesn,t monitor the rear O2 sensors AND it also eliminates the clutch interlock. It cost me $100 to have an indie do it for me along with programming a new door key. He made a call to a friend at a dealer to get a code number required to allow the changes.

Wow you're right! I have a ROW tune and didn't know that so I went outside and checked. It started to turnover in first without pushing the clutch pedal. Thanks

That switch also is used to allow blipping the throttle under braking and to disable the cruise control when the clutch is depressed. Both of these still work with the ROW code.

The ROW tune also doesn,t use the small blower that injects air to preheat the cats I forget what the proper name for it is. It,s a smog device not used in Europe . It often screws up and can be removed and the ports plugged dropping maybe another 10 lbs.

Not correct. The switch you are talking about is different.
The cultch pedal activates two switches. The one you are talking about that looks exactly as the brake switch, and another one to interrupt the starter.

You can do that with no issues at all.
The wires are connected to the switch via spade connectors.
Just pull them from the switch and connected them to each other.
I drove my car like that for over a week (until a got a new switch to replace a faulty one) with no issue at all.

ROW = rest of world ie anywhere but N America. A Canadian spec car doesn,t use ROW either I,m unsure about Mexico.

Why bother with the wires, I permanently disabled the clutch switch with a zip tie.

That would affect cruise control for those that have it, no?

Someone stated earlier that there is a second switch used for cruise control and allowing throttle blips while downshifting.

Correct, The clutch has two switches, one that activates when you first start to press the clutch, that deactivates cruise control.

The 2nd switch activates with the clutch pedal is fully depressed.

These are notorious on Caymans for failing, I have to replace mine....
