Most DRL/turn signal combination units have 3 wires (red, black, yellow). The red wire is DRL 12V +, black is ground, and yellow is turn 12V +. It sounds like you have it hooked up correctly. Yours just must not use the same type of switchback controller. A lot of those units on eBay will have an animation in their description showing how it operates.
