That oven's thermostat is nasty offset for sure (???). Even at 300+ degree C for 10min... it might possibly chg shape a tad but would never burn. Unless it is one of those mini oven then that might explain what happened.

Good news is there are a few of those headlights available here and there - affordable. I'd also post in the WTB section of the forum... sure a fella member here will give you a break on cost

In retrospect, I'd rather be in my seat than your buddy's... Hope he'll recover nicely.

They were not burnt but they caved in and looked milky.
I'll start looking for a new set, see if maybe charles can handle the conversion for me.

Laugh as much as you want but my oven: a carton box insulated externally with foam and powered with a 2500w heat gun. $5 thermostat with a timer. That easy mate...

It was ^ that, or a divorce loll

Mate will be fine, I think loll Insured and all. Plastic broken deep inside his lower back... needs minor surgery. We waited about 7 hrs however... that 'wait' wasn't pleasant apparently. 26million population city... what else can you expect here. Missing those 'quick' and free Canadian hospitals man

Luck with the headlight find :/ arggg what a day

Nine8Six 05-02-2015 08:06 AM

Oven's credit to The Retrofit Labs (had to copy their idea loll, sorry)

Installer Question

Been looking at this thread and like the look of the lights over what my 2004 986 S has (plain old headlights).

I am a 'bit' shy about trying to do an install like this myself, and read there are people out there who will do professional installs - is this true, and will it continue to be true now that Pelican Parts is the distributor?

Also, read in the thread about the color of the angel eyes and potential for some colors to not be street legal - is there a recommended color (I was thinking blue / blueish as my choice)...

Thanks

I strongly recommend Charles (member Particlewave). Tech genius imo. Its all about you getting in touch with him and convincing him to carry out the job for you!

I also know of many who've simply drove to their local car mod/retrofitter expert and got it done that way. Can't recommend any sorry (yellow page!). All of those guys are pretty switched on and know their stuff anyway.... some even open headlights all day long for a living.

But if you ask me, Charles is the man. Not question there

Echo what Fred said

Charles is the man on this, he did mine and they are fantastic. I had a spare headlight that was bad, I tried getting it apart and wound up destroying the lens trying to get it off....after that PW was the only way to go.

Uhoh, did it on my iPhone, sometimes that happens. Tried to fix it once before, but my Mac apparently does the same thing. Oh well.

And thanks all, especially Fred for the lights and ParticleWave for the de-ambering DIY!

CHRISP357 05-20-2015 04:21 AM

Disassembled my first headlight for projector install last night. Immediately wished I had just sent them off to be done but I'm kind of in it now.
Destroyed list at this point includes: rubber outer molding, two white keeper pins for said molding and one amber corner.
So much fun!

particlewave 05-20-2015 07:43 AM

Hang in there, Chris!

The outer rubber gasket may have been rotten to begin with, the white clips are usually missing or broken anyway, and the corner trim clips break off every time (there are other ways to attach them ;) ).

Can I send you the lenses for de-ambering?

Lights

Nine8six, I am also interested if you make a set. Thanks

jpc763 05-22-2015 12:27 PM

I have been looking into these again and it appears that nobody has them in stock anymore? I went to the website The ultimate bi-xenon headlight retrofit kit for Sport & Super cars which said that Pelican Parts will now carry them but I cannot find them on their site.

Any info on this would be appreciated.

Thanks, John

John - Reebuck,

I've actually spoke to the chaps at Pelican today. They are not too willing to let go a product without the full "support package" for you guys. Involves a lot of work on their side... meaning setting up ref to install manual, working on a DIY, writing down a warranty specific to those, etc etc. How nice of them (and how embarrassing for me at the same time lolll)

What they are doing now (and what takes time) is what I've never bother doing. They are "professionals" and needs to remain as such to keep their edge so from the look of things, I've given them quite a headache :/

(me shy to call again)

I'll update as soon as I hear some news. I have faith to see some kits going out in a matter of week now (maybe days, fingers crossed)

Omg, just noticed you've done the Particlewave's deambering method.

Nice work right there... car looks 12 years younger Craig

CHRISP357 05-23-2015 09:18 AM

Ok, preparing to install the projector today. It's black, as is the car. I'm considering not painting anything inside, just keeping the chrome and silver/grey. Thoughts?

Also, I destroyed the rubber seal between the car and the headlight. Can't seem to find it on Pelican or Suncoast. Any ideas?

particlewave 05-23-2015 09:29 AM

I would leave the internals stock. Painting black would make it all blend together too much.

Sadly, the seals are not available anywhere. Your best bet is to find some stick-on foam rubber weather stripping that will fit (home repair shop, window sealing kits).

swaff 05-26-2015 09:56 PM

I ordered 3 pairs from Fred and have thus far got two of them retrofitted into headlights. I was thinking that the amber angel eyes would really make the front look good on the black 996 since it had some amber on the blinkers and I would say that assumption was correct! The blue did not look as good on my black 996 (IMO), but they do look pretty nice on my buddy's silver 996!

Out for a roll in the hay...literally:

Refer to my post #821 for the rubber seals. The stuff you can get from Home Depot works great:

My projectors are black and I left the inside reflector bowl chrome as well as the other parts stock (no painting). To be honest, I kind of think they would look good black though. If you do paint the inside black, I would only do the chrome reflector bowl and leave the clear plastic sleeves as-is, unpainted. Just my 2 cents.

Trying to reassemble but having trouble with the wiring. I can't figure where they all go and they don't match the colors on the instruction sheet. Anyone have any good pictures?

HID Ballasts goes inside the driver/passenger seats - if you don't have heated seats ;)

Here goes a basic wiring diagram for you to start with. Had a friend who installed a separate on/off switch just above the fuse box for the Angel Eyes (showcar events use only, chemical green AE, highly illegal loll).

Was just looking to see on the Pelican Parts website if they were available yet and saw this new (or at least relatively new) posting:

Looks like the Luminoso are available at $400

Does anyone know where to purchase a replacement ballast for this kit? I purchased a kit last year and one of the ballasts has failed.

How do you know it's the ballast and not the bulb? Did you swap with the other side?

georgewd3 06-05-2015 01:07 PM

I did swap everything out. Swapped the bulbs first, both bulbs work fine. Swapped the ballast and the light light up. Swapped the lights from each side too. I'm certain it is the ballast.

Wow, you broke a ballast... why why why :(

Its actually the first time I hear of a faulty ballast. I was actually wondering what was wrong with those things... no failures on these seems quite unusual. Unfortunate it happens on you however, sorry to hear man

You can send me a fat $20 by PP to cover shipping and I'll shoot you a replacement pair. I have about 80 pairs on those looking for adoption here. Or if you prefer to purchase your own kit/brand, any aftermarket 35watts rated HID ballast are also fine (Amazon, eBay, autozone, etc)

georgewd3 06-06-2015 05:34 AM

Yes, just my luck to break a ballast. Must be all those New England potholes that shook things up.

Great! I'll send the $20 as this is the easiest option. Is your paypal account the same one as when I purchased the kit from you?

Same Same! Same account from November 1999 when PayPal came to life, and when they were donating $10 to all new subscribers (you guys remember that? PDA wallet and all). Been loyal to them ever since lollllll

I have great respect for companies that revolutionize the Internet (& the world).... innovation, noting to do with that 10 bucks rest assured ;)

I'm running to the post office tmrw to give my little post lady another 30'ish Skybreakers for overseas travel. I'll try my best to slip in those ballasts in that lot for you
