Mine are in this final batch, black Turismo, red angel eyes.

Certainly could be done in a day, if you don't have to paint the interior of the headlight. Add one~two day if you do paint.

In a real world (where I live occasionally) I'd say plan a good weekend mate, that is without rushing anything (incl painting the interior, and loving/polishing the lenses when completed).

MAX:
1) 2 hrs to remove the lenses + carefully clean the edge
2) 1-2 hrs to dremel the socket hole and fitting new projectors in
3) 2 hrs for the wiring
4) 1 hrs for dialing-in the orientation, pre-adjustments
5) 1 hrs testing on the bench & car, making sure all works
6) 1 hrs cleaning, removing any dust left by the above work
7) 2 hrs for re-sealing the lenses onto the headlights
(8) 12,765 hrs looking/staring at your car 'new' front-end style

Something like that. Not incredibly time consuming but it does takes a little longer than doing an oil change for sure.

The difference it makes to the car will make you forget all about wasting your precious weekend time I promise loll - keep for when it rains!

RE ^

Here are some of the latest (spy)pics I recently found on the internet with those projectors installed. Stealing other members' pics lollll criminal I know. It would be even more of a crime not to share them up I think

I know those cars recently got sold. Note to new owners; let me know if you need me to remove those from this thread and I will in a flash

Any status update on the final batch?

Chris, they are all long gone! I've passed those to my little post-lady here last Monday afternoon. The post office can process-out 5 kits per day under my (personal) ID therefore by latest Friday afternoon, all should have left the country. It's prepaid! Would go faster if I could use a friend's Co ID (e.g. no daily quota) but given the nature of the shipment I think we'll leave it that way for this last batch

I already have everyone's tracking numbers in hand. I'll update the GTP site with those # as soon as this smooth out. You'll get an automated email from the system when I punch those in!

On holiday now.... for the next 2 days lolll (back to work this Friday eve!)

Excellent! I think I'll go home and pull my headlights out tonight. Many thanks, now go enjoy your break. How are you coming on the kit to route the exhaust through the top and shoot flames, like the 918? I guess I would settle for just flames out the back though...

Pdwight 04-15-2015 03:45 PM

Hey Fred (off topic)

I attended Uber Fest this past Saturday here in North West Alabama, awesome event BTW.

We watched the cars run the track and there was an older 911 in Red with a Carbon Fibre hood that looked great and low and behold there was a set of your projectors installed. I talked with the guy a bit, he was eager to get back on the track though.

Just thought you might want to know.

Anyone still have a link to the PDF instructions? I cant seem to find them...my lights are ready, and she comes out of her cold Canadian hibernation tomorrow!

Fintro11 04-17-2015 08:21 AM

No Chris, he has to make an iPhone connector for the CD-R 23 first!

Yep, very nice DRL's. Sharp looking car! I would like to find some nice DRL's. Maybe a new project Fred?!;)

I'm always bored, Bruce! Even when I'm working on something, I have 4 or 5 projects running in my head. :p

CHRISP357 04-18-2015 04:18 PM

Do any of those projects include blue flames shooting from my exhaust?

Center Lock 'style' is the best. Nice wheel dress-up kit is all they do really ;)

The engineered CLs aren't all that easy to use and maintain I've read many times. Besides, you'd need to re-invent the hub and braking/disc system. Cool = yes..... safe = nope!

Great pic of your 986 right there btw! Our cars somehow never age lolll

Happy New Year 2015.
Its taken me 3 nights to read the thread top to bottom back to front and its an amazing project congratulations on your progress, I'm super I'mpressed :) so much so i want your lights in my 2004 996 C4S.
The standard halogens fitted are woefully bad, i have not long owned the car and was looking at the different upgrade paths available from new bulbs to led to hid inc litronic... my mind is set if i can make these fit i really want them ;)
I did look to see if anyone else had done the upgrade on a newer 911 but i haven't seen one, i have included a pic of my headlight as the reflector is different and it already has an internal lens.
Do you think it will be possible to do?
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1420206365.jpg

I have these lights as well. Very interested in making this mod work for me.

These are only sold through Pelican now, right?

I looked on their site and can't seem to find them.

Wil non lit (retrofited) lights plug into to a factory lit car without problems; plug and play? Can one set it up so that you can switch back to stock (factory lit) at will

Yes, they are plug and play. I still have my stock lights if I ever wanted to go back to stock.

Yes, they would be plug-and-play. Litronics have the normal headlight connector and a separate connector for the Lit level controller. You would just install the standard retrofitted headlights and leave the second Lit controller connector tied back. If you wanted to revert to Litronics, just reinstall them and plug the level controller connector back into the Litronic headlights.

Edit: Bruce beat me to it. :)

jaykay 04-27-2015 01:21 PM

Thanks guys, I had assumed that I would end with codes / CEL problems. Rather than waiting for a Litronics kit  I may just pick some nice halogen lights for a retrofit.

I would image Fred's projectors would cover the adjustment range of my moving eyes anyway

Sorry for the late response. Somehow/something/somewhere wiped out my subscription to this thread. I swear I used to have a subscription to this thread... I've reactivated it just now and will keep an eye on that. Same for the others threads in the DIY section, but fine on some others e.g General section. Weird.... I'm possibly banned who knows loll (fingers crossed)

Someone told me they launch the sales of GT Projectors at the beginning of May. Check again in a week!!! Also heard Pelican plans to keep a little space for the launch at the very bottom of their newsletter... in small letters... just under the unsubscribe newsletter link I think loll

Subscribe to the Pelican Newsletter if you want to be notified before the others ;)

Saw a nicely tricked yellow 986 parked while I was in Ningbo a week ago. Had hallos (shattering discovery). Left a hand written note under his driver-side wiper.... letting him/her know that I'd do bi-xenon projectors install and + lens polish for FREE (+coffee). Making ref to his primitive lighting system of course!

Exterminate the halogen indeed! Trying hard... trying hard ;)

blackandwhite 04-30-2015 06:39 AM

Just did the weekly check through my spam mailbox and sitting in there was an email from GT projectors that my news lights are on their way!

Way to brighten up a dull Thursday!

Cheers Fred, I'm really looking forward to getting these

Nine8Six 04-30-2015 07:27 AM

Adam - at the end I had to retake your blue (anodizing) along with Jeff's Vivo. There were just not... not quite, not quite perfect enough... let's just say. New kit done finally... and I think you'll freak out when you see them (Jeff Vivo as well loll). In fact a few of my mates here saw them on the workbench and all went absolutely bunker on that blue. You'll know what they meant when you have them in hands ;) Different ambient light temp = different blue tones. Sick

That (new) dye I'm getting out of Japan is wicked stuff... not exactly cheap and more and more I use it I'm starting to understand why lolllll it is insanely beautiful!

WE-NEED-PICS!!!! Really want to see those

Nine8Six 04-30-2015 07:32 AM

By not cheap (dye) I mean: $700/kg (min order qty, one colour of course)

You can dye about 200~300 'small/medium' parts with a kg. In the anodizing industry this is consider 'crazy' expansive.

Whatever... had to add this detail, dunno why (tapping myself on the shoulder I guess) lollll

Bored!

I was already excited before I got this message Fred! Sounds like Jeff and I have the premium edition

herve_g 04-30-2015 01:47 PM

Just received the projectors.
The fun part will begin soon :D

herve_g 05-02-2015 06:46 AM

I'm super pissed right now...
Got my first (Ebay) headlight in my old oven, cam back to check it after 10 minutes and the top half of the headlight was burnt.

So I got to throw it out and find a new set.
I always suspected that the temperature setting of this oven was off, now I'm sure of it.

Nine8Six 05-02-2015 07:24 AM

oh man... speechless atm

(in the hospital waiting room waiting for my mate who is getting a piece a 2~3" ABS plastic pulled out from his back.) Road racing accident, today at the track :/

Pissing rain in Shanghai, windy, cold, Non stop. and now this Hervé.... wtf.

That oven's thermostat is nasty offset for sure (???). Even at 300+ degree C for 10min... it might possibly chg shape a tad but would never burn. Unless it is one of those mini oven then that might explain what happened.

Good news is there are a few of those headlights available here and there - affordable. I'd also post in the WTB section of the forum... sure a fella member here will give you a break on cost

Fintro11 05-02-2015 07:42 AM

guess the eBay headlights just can't handle the heat? ( too soon?)

Were they oem?
Pics?

Nah, not too soon.
It'll teach me to stick too long with crappy stuff (the oven).

They were OEM. Good thing I didn't pay too much for them
