Actually the lighter on my '07 is always hot and last night I sacrificed a 12VDC working light to use the lighter adapter and was able to use the battery charger to open the trunk.

Before this, I removed the front passenger tire and the liner, searching for the emergency cable but was not there (and I looked everywhere), then my neighbor showed up with a utube video showing that the driver side is where the cable is located, thankfully we decided to use the lighter option and worked instantly.
