So yes, just transferring the guts of the key works fine. All it takes to start the car is having the transponder near the transponder coil and a properly cut key.
I think you may be inadvertently causing even more confusion.

His question was whether the programming was for the transponder or the electronics. In other words, he wants to know if he buys a new transmitter, would it still need to be programmed. The answer is yes, since the programming is not contained in the transponder pill.

He never asked about transferring the circuit board (transmitter).
