record the mileage before you leave and take the car directly to the nearest Porsche dealer and have full systems check to see if these guys didn't break something else while tinkering in there.
If you wait to long they'll wash their hands of it.
Its only $100 to have a certified Porsche mechanic do a full once over.

Wow....I thought I had run into some bad luck with my Boxster...My luck was more of the body panel type tho. I feel for ya! Something tells me this will be something minor, and you'll be cruising in no time! Keep us up to date, and stay optimistic Frank!

I feel your pain, sometimes cars can just be a total PITA.
However, equally disturbing in my mind is your comment:
So,I puch the car accross the four lane highway with people yelling remaks such as "peice of ********************" and "get the fu*k off the road".
I guess this is schadenfreude in action, I'm sure some people derived some joy from seeing you push your fancy import, but that's still pretty f*cked up.
That's a highly dangerous situation you were in, and I can only assume someone stopped and helped you out. If you were doing the push/steer solo, then shame on 'em.

I was actually pushing from the bottom of the winshield and steering with my other hand till a road construction guy came over and helped with the last 2 lanes.
The yelling people must have been jeleous
I pulled out my bill and the engine itself was $9,619.30, $2,485 in labor,an the rest was fluid,filters,a/c system recharge, and the belt along with $762 in taxes.

Man, on those 97/98 engines, is anyone else here afraid of buying an engine used from THOSE two years?
It could just be my cynical nature.

Just curious, as I have a 100% stock 98 Box.... what is wrong with those two years' engines?
I will say that I've had mine for 2 years (bought in May of 04), have since put close to 20k on it, and have not had a single problem yet. What am I in for????

Hi Frank,
Was the engine a NEW one from Porsche of North America?
I wouldn't dare take a used 2.5 from those model years no matter how cheap. Hope its working out for you.

I did look into all the used engine options but it seemed that it would end up costing 7 or 8 thousand for one of them to be put in and they could go any time after that. Now this engine, from what I heard is made better and will last a very long time as it is direct from porsche and different from the defective design.
