Using a glove to catch the fluid is genius! I learned something new today, thanks Deadeye.

This weekend I installed leather trim pieces with red accent stitching from Redline. I'm pretty happy with the results, as I tend towards the subtle, OEM-looking changes.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1441767746.jpg

Today I drove it to work. I want to drive with the top down for as long as I can before winter. It was 11°C out (about 52F), so I had to wear my Porsche baseball cap, but at least I could see a bit of sun, so it was a nice 15 minute ride.

I finished installing a new to me double din GPS receiver. Thanks for the smoking deal Chuck

Installed the Kuda cellphone holder. Kinda re-engineered the install. Instructions say simply install screw towards rear of the holder (about 10" towards the footwell) but with the all-leather panel the holder attaches to made it difficult. I lined the holder with double stick tape and used a longer self tapping screw. The holder is quite sturdy now.

... and yes, the Ultimate Cupholder is still very accessible :):):)

Went to the Black Hills

Okay, it wasn't just today, but it was a 5 day trip from last Monday to yesterday. Put on about 3000 km (~1850 miles) with a ton of driving within the Hills themselves. Without a doubt some of the finest roads I've ever driven in and around Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Mon. and the 'needles'. Made a side trip to Devil's Tower Wyoming and that has great roads in the area as well.

Anyway, the car performed beautifully without a hitch. Today I washed it and got rid of a million hoppers and other insects that coated the nose.

All in all a great 5 days.

alm001 09-12-2015 12:21 PM

Installed o2 sensors. Crooked as ****************, but they will hold. The originals left a lot of material behind in the threads.

Jamesp 09-12-2015 12:42 PM

Finished running the wires to my left door speaker. Now I have 4 working speakers.

I left my driver's side window cracked open during a thunderstorm a few nights ago. Luckily I just had a damp carpet. Today, after a thorough inspection to verify it was dry, I "waterproofed" my Central locking unit. I know that ECU Doctors make a great product and I may go for that in the future, but for today, it was a cheap DIY with hot-glue on the seam and dielectric grease around the connections and fuse:

Today I washed it and added a pair of side decals, instantly shortening the time 0 to 60 by at least half a second, as well as increasing the top speed with around 12 mph...

You're lucky. We can't get those performance mods here in the states. :D

That's odd considering I got them from Canada... ;)

But I guess they only work properly with the metric system...

Finally drove Chuckanut Drive

Lived in Washington State all my life and never been on Chuckanut Drive. Did so yesterday and will do it again. Despite the beautiful day, I had the 16 miles of road all to myself, except for one car who was kind enough to pull over and let me pass.

Spent a relaxing afternoon fitting my new rear lights ( $120 of ebay - can't be beat).
Also decided it was time to repaint my brake calipers. Got to get the car looking good for Rennsport v in 2 weeks!
I was also shocked at how my rear Potenza S-04 Pole Position tires have worn down after only about 12000 miles. Two trips up and down Highway 1 will just about finish them off!http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1442199629.jpg

@njbray : mind if I ask where you got the brake decals from, I can't seem to find them anywhere online? Thanks!

njbray 09-14-2015 09:41 AM

Brake decals came from:
Porsche Emblems / Stickers - Maxspeed-Motorsports

they have different sizes & colors. I had to be careful when peeling of the thick paper backing - the letters want to stick to the thick backing instead of the clear paper. They seem good quality.

Thanks for that link. I may have found my new hood emblem

Not today - yesterday (needed to edit the video). Had a great time dodging cones at an airstrip.

Realigned my headlights. I have not been happy with how high they were since the day I bought it. To me they were shining too low. At 55 MPH I didn't feel I could see far enough ahead of me to feel safe if something stepped out into the road. Now we will see how many people flash me on the way to work this week. No one did on my trial drive last night, so that's a good thing.

Polished the crap out of it and gave it a nice wax. It took a really long time. I didn't finish till after dark. pictures will have to wait till tomorrow.

Made my own floormats for $6, and ordered a buffer.

I realized a couple of thing about my Boxster after I used the no rinse car wash on my car (this stuff works pretty well).
First, my hood that I had repainted, color sanded and buffed, wasn't nearly as smooth and shiny as the rest of the car.
Second, the entire car had a lot (really... a lot) of swirls in it. This seems to be fairly common for darker paints.
I decided to go to town on it with my Porter Cable 7424 DA polisher. To date, I hadn't yet done the entire car. I started with the hood. I put on a cutting pad and started in with some rubbing compound on the hood only. As soon as I got the product on the pad, and started lowering it to the surface of the car, the polisher slipped out of my hand and hit the hood. **CRAP!!**(those weren't my words) I inspected the hood and found only a little bit of marring that the pad and compound could easily handle (whew!). I did the entire hood with the rubbing compound. That made a huge difference. Although not quite as good as factory paint, it was really darn close.
I then did the entire car with a couple more polishes. First Meguiar's 105, then 205 polishes. At this point (many, many hours into the process), the car looked fantastic. I used some Meguiar's Mirror Glaze on the hood, and although it made it look a little better (not too much really), it's really tough to wipe it clean. I figured it wasn't worth the effort to do the entire car with it.
Last thing I did was to apply some P21S wax. This stuff is super easy to apply and remove, and looks like a million bucks. I'm totally happy with the results. I might add a few more coats of wax, but it looks beautiful as is. Here are some pictures:

What kind of buffer did you order? I'm trying to find a good but reasonable one as well.

I actually got the same one as the post after me: Porter Cable 7424xp
Should be here tomorrow, maybe I can get some hands on time with it before my trip this weekend.

amagalla 09-22-2015 03:18 PM

Autogeek.net (no affiliation) has been (for me) one of the best places to get tools and supplies for car cleaning. They also have really great "How-To" videos to help you with the process. I recommend the Porter Cable, but there are many other options out there.

It was yesterday actually but today is a carbon copy. My wife and I worked in the yard a bit then took a trip to West Baden & French Lick Indiana. Did some gambling, lost our shirt, but what a great day for a Boxster S ride. We found this old church, had to have a picture.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1443125797.jpg
