I love it they have a first gen RX7 on their front page. I love my lemons races, but I'm a mechanic I just love fixing my buddies cars when they pit in. :D

RX is a lot easier and cheaper than SPB. Just saying

Tell us about it. What was the easiest task? The most difficult? How long did it take you. Did you invent any new profanities? Share. ;)

It is just cut into the hood metal. I marked it out to (mostly) miss the framework, then drilled holes at the ends and bent the middle.

It was all carefully planned and designed using the latest available technology:

With just a single Boxster radiator in the center in 90+ degree weather 'racing' Autocross, Rallycross, and a few drag strip runs with nitrous, the engine did not overheat.

No new cuss words, just the same old ones. Out in about an hour, less than two to get the new one back in. Less “fiddley” than replacing the convertible top but not without some issues. Best recommendations are to 1) use a set of cable pliers for the spring clamps and 2) remove the flexible oil fill tube which will give you a lot more room to access the hoses and clamps. I chose not to cut the tank out. Not as bad a job as it has been made out to be. Good luck if you have to replace yours. PM me and I’ll be glad to walk anyone through the process if needed.

Bought a new stable mate for our 550SE and Audi S5. 400hp 2018 Macan Turbo (CPO). Our new ‘gofer’. Really love it!

Congrats on the Macan, Fred. One of my partners has the Macan Turbo and my wife just got a base Macan. They are great cars, you will love it!

PaulE 09-23-2021 05:53 PM

My car is having new transmission mounts and a new AOS installed. When my engine was rebuilt we discussed replacing the transmission mounts but it turns out the originals were re-used. The mid pipes of exhaust had been contacting the rear sway bar and the cause of this was failed motor mounts. One of the mid pipes had already been rewelded and now the other side will be rewelded too. The AOS is being replaced as a preventative after an oil smoke bomb situation at Watkins Glen last week.

Changed the oil and filter, then got the hardtop out of storage and installed it for the rainy season. RainX'd the windows and headlights and ready for the Fall and Winter.

986 Boxster 09-26-2021 03:33 AM

Put the hardtop on for the fall season. Wife had a spa appointment right next to the cannabis store. I told her to go to the cannabis store first so she could be relaxed for her spa appointment :dance:http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1632655947.jpg

Did you use a template for the updated lettering?

986 Boxster 09-27-2021 05:32 AM

I used these measurements for the P and the E and then I used painters tape under the letters in a straight line and spaced the remaining letters out evenly. I didn't like the template that came with the letters from Suncoast, the letters were to far apart. I also didn't like the way they looked when I tried following the same curve as the Boxster letters. Hope that helps. It takes a bit of patience to get them all spaced out evenly.

Helps tremendously, thanks!

986 Boxster 09-27-2021 09:46 AM

You're welcome Radman. You will have to make sure that the P and the E are straight. If you look at the picture with the measurements you will notice that, that person put the letters following the trunk curve, mine are straight. Once I had the P and the E in place I placed the template above them to make sure they were straight. If I had to do it again I would center the S and work my way to the outsides, it would've been a lot easier. I only though about that after I was almost done.

Today I looked longingly at my car. Just dealt with 3 heart attacks, stents and a quadruple bypass in the last 2 weeks. That’s the easy part- I can’t drive for 6 weeks and by then the snow will be flying…. Spring is a long ways off…..

Sorry to hear your news but it sounds like you are on the mend. Pray for an Indian Summer and maybe get a couple of drives in before the snow flys.

Best of luck for a full and speedy recovery! Not the same, but maybe someone can take you for a ride in your car while the weather is cooperating.

found a great new route in So Cal. Well new to me at least. From the valley go to Little Tujunga Canyon. As a side note Car and Driver wrote about part of this in the June issue. Basically, take Little Tujunga all the way into Santa Clarita. It turns into Sand Canyon and hits the 14. There is a In n Out at the end of Sand Canyon and if you time it right you can get lunch. After lunch go past the 14 and make a right on Soledad Canyon Rd. Take this to Sierra Hwy and continue to Palmdale. About a mile or so make a right on Angeles Forrest Hwy. You then take this to Big Tujunga Canyon Rd to the end. Took this today on a whim. I was just going to go back after I went to In n Out, but for some reason there was a bit of road work going on so I thought about going all the way to Angeles Forrest and I am glad I did. This was a great route. You also have 2 other options on Angeles Forrest, you could make a right on Upper Big Tujunga which leads to Angeles Crest, or stay on Angeles Forrest to Angeles Crest. Both of these are good options if you are looking to make it a longer drive. Today was a great day for a great drive.

We are truly blessed in southern California with great roads and weather. I am less than ten minutes from a trip up Mt. Baldy, with the option of Glendora Ridge for a bit longer route.

I overfilled on my last(and first for me) oil change on the 99. Got it back up on the lift, dumped out what was in the filter canister, and now it's perfect lol! Unfortunately didn't have time to swap O2 sensors to see if codes followed but maybe next weekend.

vetman 10-04-2021 05:29 AM

got the Backyard Buddy put together last Saturday

finally can get it done

pidj 10-04-2021 06:08 AM

I sold my 2001 S for a '03 M3 Cabriolet. The 986 was very clean and low mileage but I needed the back seats and this was the best compromise. Funny but they all have their issues that need sorting and monitoring so I move from IMS Anxiety to other stuff anxiety :D
So far so good - the drive is not as refined as the Porsche but I do prefer the seating comfort and the loss of that ridiculously large steering wheel. I prefer the sight lines too. I'll miss the 986 but maybe some day I'll venture back. Cheers!

I went with a Max Jax in my garage. A lift helps so much. Especially if you have injuries or are in any way mobility limited.

vetman 10-04-2021 02:49 PM

I needed the storage space, as well as getting under the car to work.

Sorry for my late response, here’s the measurements I took for my speedster hump covers and a pic of the cover (same cover for both sides on my set). covers are a loose fit, drawing not to scale.

Fred - that's awesome! I was thinking this past weekend that I needed covers for several sets of my humps - you just saved me a bunch time, energy and brain cells. I'll get my upholstery guy on this. Thanks!

Thank you very much, I have a set on order right now.
It's very difficult to swallow the price for a set of OEM ones but I may
choose that route. Do they have some padding in there?
Do you still have the part number?

Are you happy with the purchase?

PaulE 10-09-2021 05:06 PM

Today I was at New Jersey Motorsports Park's Lightning track for the first day of a 2 day HPDE. Had a great day, no AOS smoke bomb issues like I had at Watkins Glen in August. Tomorrow looks like rain but fingers crossed I'll get a couple of sessions in.

elav 10-10-2021 04:13 PM

I replaced the trailing arms today and got rid of my suspension clunk.

Zordrack 10-10-2021 07:31 PM

Swapped in a new top and managed to lose tack of one of the push arms once and poked a whole in the foam liner.

Anybody know what the part numbers are or what it's actually called ?

I may have an extra one on the shelf, let me know which side if you want me to check.
New ones are probably pretty inexpensive. Here's the part number and name:

Thank you.

And well both really.
Passenger side was already compromised by previous owner.
So of course I had to molest the drivers side :)
