Yeah, I did that a few weeks ago. Cool mod.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...83bf6b4ae2.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

That mod follows the high sped fan switch hack... and the engine cooling fan hack. Next up... Daytimne running lights hack... and the rear foglights hack. I'm running out of hacks. ;) |

You clearly had a hack attack. I guess I need to do some more research. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I've never heard of this before, and a search for it in the archives did not bring forth any hits. Thanks - DM |

Key on... low beams automatically on. See #3 on this link: https://www.boxsterforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2711 The rear fog light hack... How to: 986 guide for enabling both rear fog light "hack" - How To - www.BoXa.net Also... I did another mod... I was SOOOOOOOOOOO bored. I've only read of-seen one other person do the mod... and haven't been able to find the post. After I completed the "mod", lol... I installed a switch so that I could control when it was "on" and when it was "off". Mostly out of shame and embarrassment, lol. I won't admit what it is... but guesses are welcome.. |
My baby just rolled over to 100,000 miles today. I gave her a bubble bathhttp://986forum.com/forums/uploads02/new1601489159.jpg

Changed the oil today. Didn`t need to be changed, only had approx. 4900kms on the oil, but I received the magnetic oil drain plug that I order about 2 weeks ago last week and I`ve been dying to open up the oil filter to inspect. No steel shavings in the oil filter or in the oil  . I can sleep good this winter :)
|
Just did this.
|
Picked up a Ben's Short shift kit. Will install as part of the winter hibernation upgrading cycle. I've heard good things!

I replaced spark plug tubes on the Black 2000. One had started leaking so bad that was dripping oil onto the exhaust.
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02/oily1601609002.jpg ..Then went for a nice drive to make sure there were no more leaks. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1601609090.jpg |
I made all my pistons 1540 grams
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1601611523.jpg Then I dropped the pistons in the holes. :D http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1601611594.jpg |

I prepared a "Y: wire stripped at each end, splicing a wire into the middle of another wire... very short wires. I attached the bottom of the Y wire to the bottom prong of #6 fuse. I then connected one of the top wires of the Y and connected it to the bottom prong of #9 fuse. I wanted to test the effort since each headlight has a fuse for the low beam. Turned on the ignition key not starting the car... no headlight. Called it a day. My plan was... is?... to run the wire from fuse six then a wire to #s nine and 10. Now... the mod is for a 996... and I don't know if there's a big difference. Has anyone done this mod follows the instructions in the link? Can you share how you made it work? Thanks!! |
Finally got around to fixing my headlight plug that had the tab broken and kept working loose. Found a plug on ebay with wires already attached. Just had to solder and heat shrink them together. And now it is long enough to reach the headlight before installing if I ever have plug issues or to test.

my '03 996 Cab came to me with a damaged (painted) passenger side bump guard. I was amazed how hard it was to source a nice used one that I could R/R. It's been 2+ years since purchase and still no luck. I would have it repaired and painted but there is still an amazing backlog of work at decent body shops in our area since Hurricane Michael 2 years ago this week. This might be the ticket! |
It was a little easier than I thought it would be. Made a cardboard template and used a 24x24 sheet of acrylic. Did it all in 1 day. 🙂

Thanks Kboggs. It's added to my shopping list. Sadly I'll be taking it off the road here pretty quick. Sigh.

Ths is the blue plug WITHOUT any cables or metal pins. Since my cables and meteal pins are fine, I will take the pins/wires out from old blue plug housing and push them in to new plug housing one by one with a cheap thin metal tool made to remove the pins from plug housings (non Porsche tool - ebay has bunch of these, etc). No soldering nor cutting cables ;) |
I like the idea of being able to plug the cable in with the headlight out. So an extension makes sense.

Frunk no longer slumping
Finally changed the frunk struts this mornin, now full set installed front and rear. :D

Swapped the short shifter in. Original shifter had already 'some play' in it, so brand new shortshifter feels rock solid :dance:http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1602336738.jpg

I pulled the insurance off today. Sad. But got a list of work and fixes to get done this fall/winter that I can get started on.
Pilot4fn, I've got a Ben's SSK that is on the list to install this winter. It looks like yours in a Ben's unit as well? Thanks forum members for all the support so far! |
Quote:
I bought this from a local Porsche club member who had never installed it to his 996, but sold the car forward so the SSK was left over. |
Got some "fresh" wheels today. Does anybody know the name(what Porsche calls them) or part # of my new wheels. They are slightly used. They are Porsche wheels. 18"diameter (F+R) - 7.5" and 9" wide.
Old wheels (first pic)- New second pic. https://photos.smugmug.com/Cars/2001...2BC0C269-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Cars/2001...IMG_2879-L.jpg |

They appear to be Sport Classics, but I am no authority on this. I think they are the two piece wheels made for Porsche by BBS. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
BBS Sport Design. 2 piece, italian, custom run for Porsche, never stocked by BBS. A $5600 option when our cars were new. The bolts are titanium. They can be disassembled but not rec'd due to potential to ruin. Arguably the best looking factory wheel, unfortunately not the lightest. And definitely not the easiest to clean. But pretty.

Thanks guys!

Sport Design
Just a quick question to WillW, regarding disassembly. I have a set that i plan to refurbish, sand, prime and repaint. How were you able to loosen all the titanium bolts that, from what i understood were locktite'd from factory without breaking one? I guess you were pretty careful and lucky at the same.
Good Luck on the project, and yes they are BBS made in Germany. |
I have not done any disassembly yet. I don't know what I am going to do, yet. I don't want to take them apart. I am trying to figure out a way to cover the bolts to keep them from getting painted.

Finally installed some mufflers on mine. It was a bit too rowdy, if there is such a thing. Tinnitus isn't as cool anymore as it was in the 80's.
