Ultimately I think I'll need the hood and the trunk deck sprayed. But I'm going slow and seeing what I can do.

Installed secondary cat delete pipes. Didn`t make any difference in sound :confused:., if anything, I think the car is quieter now.

Finally got the P0141 code. Cleared and came back a week later. I had anticipated this

happening since I have 115 k on the car. I was going to preemptively replace the entire

SAI system so In May I placed my order to Pelican and was going to install but with

temps at 100 deg i put it off. The Check engine light came and let me know it was time.

The cause of the failure was the vacuum canister had a small crack on the bottom.

Thanks for the well wishes…. Had a few setbacks since I posted that message but doing better. I still can’t drive, but I was up to wiping down the Boxster with a polishing cloth yesterday. Put the top up to stretch out the wrinkles as I’ve had the top down for months. Hooked up the trickle charger to top off the battery and managed to straighten out the garage a little bit. Altogether: while not much, it was a little sense of normalcy in what’s been an incredibly chaotic time. The forum has been a bright spot so thanks to all who contribute the wisdom advice and experiences we all share with these wonderful cars.

I tried to install a Circuit Werks muffler - didn’t go so well…..

This weekend we went for a drive with the local PCA club. Good time and wife enjoyed it so we'll do more. Nice people, even though we clearly had the least expensive car lol!

Pulled the cover off the '04 Special Edition today and drove it to work. Realized that I really need to make time to just go for a long drive to nowhere.

Over the last couple of days I swapped my 18 inch wheels and track tires for my 17 inch wheels and tires, pulled out my racing seats and harnesses and installed my standard seats, and replaced my headlight switch. Next week my radio should be repaired by Becker and hopefully that's it for repairs for a while!

As usual, looked at lots of way overpriced Boxsters posted for sale online on various sites.

I can't get over the 'new math'.

1. I bought a 2000 Box S in August 2008 for $15K. The included sticker showed the MSRP of $57K so I bought it for basically 30% of MSRP. Fast forward to today. A base 2013 Boxsters are $43-$50K. I looked at one in particular that was is a low mileage car available for $49.9K. Best I can tell, the car, as optioned would have had an MSPR of ~$66K. a similar 30% valuation would put this car at ~$22K. Instead, asking price is over double. Crazy times!

The whole free market system is a little whack right now and there will always be those that have more means or less intelligence to overpay and skew things in the short term. However, I still remain a firm believer in the free market system and it's ability to eventually right itself. Patience will reap rewards in the end.

Not sure what you mean exactly by "regulated" system but the definition of a free market is an economic system based on supply and demand with little or no government control. It's characterized mostly by a spontaneous and decentralized arrangement allowing individuals, for the most part, to make their own economic decisions. In context to this discussion, sellers can ask what they want and buyers will either pay it or not. So, when the means ($$$) run out or the buyers get smart enough to not overpay, prices will equilibrate. Again...patience.

I'd be interested to know also. I never heard of regulated system. BaT and PCarMarket, and other online car auctions are not the best way to judge the car market. Most of the people on there are car collectors, or they are looking for a specific car that they don't mind overpaying. And then there's the ones that had one to many drinks sittng in their lazy boy chair while browsing the car auctions that pay stupid money for a 9 owner car with a rebuild title. I see cars go for stupid money on online auctions. If people took their time to look at the autotrader, etc. they would see that similar cars could be had for a lot less money. I am also here to learn :cheers:

Going to jump in the waters on this one. We have a free market, but it is also regulated. One instance is with utilities such as electric, water, etc. Those are regulated. Phone used to be regulated.

I know that there are regulations in the auto industry, like safety, emissions, etc. regulations, but I never heard of price regulations in the auto industry, at least not in Canada. Is that not the same in the U.S.?

I think you need a business license, can’t lie about products and fraud can get you in trouble. We used to have laws about price fixing too. I could keep going but you see my point. We have a regulated system. We the people could add any regulation we want.

I had my oil changed and the gasket between the header and mid-pipe replaced on the driver side. Thought I heard a small exhaust leak on that side and that's what it was. As soon as I can find a volunteer to assist me, the hard top will go on.

After 22 years my 986 finally needed a new ignition switch. I wasn't sure at first because it didn't fail in the usual way with odd electrical problems, I stopped and went to remove to the key and it wouldn't turn all the way or let me take the key out, when I finally got the key out with a lot of jiggling, it still thought the key was in the first position and started beeping as if the key had been left in, then I couldn't reinsert the key.

I ordered a new ignition switch (I used the Audi part, instead of an aftermarket brand like Uro), which didn't get here until a few days ago. It should have been a straightforward fix, but a 10 minute repair turned into a 3 hour repair because the two set screws where overtightened and the only thing I could get up in there was a screwdriver bit. I tried a half dozen tiny screwdrivers, socket wrenches, pliers, etc.

I finally took the bit that fit and hammered it into a small block of wood to give it a handle I could grip, and was able to get both set screws loose. Just needed the right tool for the job, which in this case meant making the tool myself. :cheers:

Took her out for the first time in a few months. Got the top down, warmed her up, and hit 135 on a 1 mi straightaway. Smooth and steady the whole time. These cars may not do lightning fast sprints but damn they are wonderful driving machines.

Replaced passenger side driveaxle. Was making a clicking noise so it was time. Found a used one on eBay.

One tip, I think the 101 projects book says you need to take down the muffler to replace. I just dropped the coffin arm and control arm and "pulled" wheel carrier bottom of strut out enough to get the driveaxle into the wheel hub. Seemed to work.

The muffler flange bolts did not look like they were gonna come out without breaking off.........hence looking for a different solution. Stopped for a second thinking that if I broke them it would be a great excuse to upgrade the exhaust...........But nah. Not yet.

Today and yesterday I got one of my 'project Boxsters' ready to be someone else's race car project. Even though I was selling it as-is with the engine out, it's a lot easier to transport with the engine in so...

Extremely jealous. Where did you find the Zanzibar car? Year? Base or S? Transmission type? Interior color? What does it need?

Don't be too jealous Rick. 2001 Tiptronic Base that doesn't engage in gear and was sitting for three years. I made a low offer on a Tulsa Craigslist ad that was about to expire. It did come with an additional transmission and torque converter ready to install though.

That blue one already had a buyer before you asked about the bumper and transmission. I never actually had it for sale, just came across a guy that was looking and decided to let it go.

Well, I performed the entire suspension overhaul and replaced the steering rack last week. I took the Boxster to the dealer for an alignment after. While driving it yesterday on the freeway, got a scary rear end shimmy. Scared the crap out of me.

Finally made time to get sway bar links and bushings done. 11 year old son helped me out. Was nice having a second set of hands and teaching him something not involving a computer or some sort of electronic. He was sore in the evening :)
