Steven-

You forgot to mention you wonderful tolling system in Melbourne which is totally tourist unfriendly...how are you supposed to know about this 'unique' system?
Anyway, I felt totally oppressed there, I was working for 15 weeks on projects and couldn't get used to it...
Even this wonderful Ocean is totally castrated...
Too bad

A ticket for 33mph? That's just ridiculous. Look up ticketassassin on google. There's ways to fight the ticket that doesn't involve showing up to court (the officer gets paid overtime to show up to court). Why give him a bigger paycheck for being a jackass.

Excessive Speed?

Totally B-S!! Making a quota probably and you were the unfortunate recipient of the verbage from the cop. I don't know if in your area the police have to write a certain amount of tickets monthly. Here in NY is brutal. Not that the police ever admit to this practice but there have been at times of slow down by the cop cars giving tickets,as part of contract negotiations, elected officials have admonished the troopers for not enforcing "safety". Logically speaking they are in essence telling the troopers to give more speeding tickets because municipalities need the money to operate. Speeding tickets, parking fines in NY State and NYC are part of general funds and make the government lots of money, they count on this money as part of revenues, a hidden tax that they never disclose how much money it makes. As usual is on the taxpayers back.
I heard the other day that the silver color is the least ticketed color in the US. Other than repainting, just drive carefully where these "fine officers of the law" are. Sports car, young man = speeding ticket.
On another note congrats on your fine acquisition. It won't be your last speeding ticket so be careful and enjoy the Boxster.

drove 120 miles to visit a friend who was helping to open up a new restaraunt in Hundterdon County, NJ. Think long dark roads going through many different towns with each town posting one police cruiser to fish for ticket funds. The Valentine One saved me twice. Although with the roads so desolate the radar waves travel long distances so the detector was warning me many miles before I got up to the cop. The V1 was a must have for this part of the world, my friend was busted so many times doing the measely 10-15 miles over the limit that he had his license suspended for six months and had to ride his mountain bike during winter : (

Jeannot, sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your time in Melbourne.

You should give it another try outside of work. It is a fantastic city for lifestyle. OK, we don't have a harbour bridge or opera house, but food and shopping are the best in Australia. During our summer months, the outdoors lifestyle is great and it's hood down driving everyday.

You are right about the tolling system. It's a bit of a mystery.....

Florida is a good place to get a ticket, pay one of those ticket-fixer laywers and you have no worries, it's all about revenue here.
