I've been doing this with a soldering iron for decades. Filler rods seem unnecessary...unless you're building new material or missing a section. I've never needed them.

in my younger days when I was doing a lot of car models, I used to mod and rebond with only an old knife heated on the stove. Occasionally across the years I’ve successfully called this skill into action on my cars and motorcyles also
