Porsche related issue but not boxster

Need help. Anyone ever here of or have this problem? Porsche 944 turbo. I let the clutch out while dead stop going straight and have no issue. But if I am turning left or right from a dead stop, I start letting clutch out, turn wheel and the car shutters and shakes...ONLY when turning either left or right and only from a dead stop.

Gear oil was just changed...and that was pretty much all.

Any thoughts?

Motor mounts have less than 1000 miles but certainly worth a look...

Since the wheel is turned it requires more power to get the vehicle moving. Tire scrub, etc. I think you have no problem. Give it a little more throttle. Similar to starting going uphill.

Yes Ian...lsd. Went back to my mechanic this morning and we both drove it. As he told me it is coming from the rear...I thought front but the vibrations etc are coming up through the torque tube to the clutch and motor shaking the front end. We did a gear oil change and he thinks that even though they use Mobil Delvac on all their Pcars with no issue that this LSD is not happy with it and the plates in the lsd are catching. He did not add an additive to it. Going back Monday and we are going to swap the tranny oil with Motul 300 LS and see how that responds. These older cars get fickle in old age and mileage... But I tell you what.. Get out of turning in first gear and have at it...this car MOVES and always a thrill to drive!

They're both ls type aren't they ?
Maybe Try an ns type oil ?

There is a lot of info out there about gl4 and gl5 , and using thicker gl4 to overcome gl5 problems .
Very confusing

The redline application guide says this car should use their MT-90, which is a GL-4. I think Mobile Delvac is a GL-5. I use the delvac in the diffs for my tacomas (well I sold one so the one that is left ) and in my FJ cruiser. I use the MT90 in the 5 speed in the Tacoma, and also my son's Miata transmission, which hates GL5.

It could very well be the fluid, and there are not many GL4 out there. I think Brad Penn makes one:
http://www.summitracing.com/search/product-line/brad-penn-multipurpose-classic-gl-4-gear-oil

And redline makes a couple of GL4s, the MT90 is the one I use on my vehicles that call for a GL4:
Red Line Synthetic Oil - Gear Oil for Manual Transmissions - MT-90 75W90 GL-4 Gear Oil

Edit: I may be way off, I was putting in 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo into the redline application guide for the above. I just saw in your sig that yours in a 1989, so I put that into the redline application guide and this is what it recommended for the transaxle: 75W90 GL5
http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?product=58304

Sounds like that is about the same as the Mobile Delvac 75W90. Good luck, hopefully a fluid change will help.

Steve

Thanks Steve. We discussed redline as well. They make one called swepco that a lot of 944 guys use as well. Trial and error, or I rip the whole transmission out and start over, cause you know, I have millions of dollars to spend on a car...why not...lol. Pain in the but. I am missing both my Boxsters right now!

Yeah, they are.m it's amazing what a 4 cylinder can do. Mine is the 89 turbo with the 88 S options so bigger turbo, 928 s4 brakes, m030 suspension and parts...and of course we added the chip to kick it up a little.

I wish the 986/987 could be upgraded like these.

The only time that I get shuttering on the 944 Turbo is when I don't give it enough throttle (straight or turning or whatever) - then it shakes like crazy. There could be something wrong, but in my car I just give it a little more right foot!

Now that sounds like motor mounts or tranny mount. Replaced all of mine...not cheap but that specific shimmy and shake is easy to understand. This is because the gear oil is not right for the lsd. We are replacing on Monday.
