It doesn't change the shifter position at all, just the way it feels.
The shift knob can be adjusted, within limits, with the cables though ! |

I applaud your efforts, Ben.
However, running a round aluminum ball against a flat plastic surface is going to leave you with the same issue: play will develop quickly as the ball wears a groove into the plastic sleeve. You need something more like the stock insert for the ball joint in order to distribute the load. |
