Looking good ! I'm assuming you will announce on here when these will be available to purchase ?

PaulE 07-28-2019 01:03 PM

Quel prix quand ils sont disponibles à la vente? En USA.

WillH 07-29-2019 03:57 AM

Will these work with the eBay shifter?

They should since Ben's shifter is a modified eBay knockoff of the B&M short shifter. But if you're going to the trouble of taking out your console and disassembling your shifter, why not also go for the bolt action ball bearing smoothness of Ben's shifter?

I originally wanted one of his but he was unable to provide one at the time. I went with the Ebay one instead. A little less side to side slop from my eBay shifter would make me happy and if it fits...

Ben006 07-31-2019 10:07 AM

Hi !

Yes it will fist almost any short shifter, and soon even the stock shifter with the addition of a small bushing.

They are almost ready ! I need to pack them and send them out to Uniwerks !

I ran into a "problem" though...

I thought I could machine the shouldered bolts cleanly, but it's very hard to make something that works great, looks clean, and that I can make 200 of without having to quit my job :(

It's no big deal though, the only difference is that a 10mm hole needs to be drilled to make room for the threaded part of the bolt.
Here it is, cut bolt :

Normal bolt :

Ben,

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying here:

"It's no big deal though, the only difference is that a 10mm hole needs to be drilled to make room for the threaded part of the bolt."

Does this mean you are drilling a 10mm hole for the bolt or is this a hole I need to drill when I install the lever? Where does this hole need to be drilled? Why is the bolt cut? Do I need to drill a 10mm hole and also cut the bolt? I'm unclear on what is required to make this work.

Maybe you can clarify.

Dana

Ben006 08-01-2019 03:22 AM

Just drilling a 10mm hole for the threaded part of the bolt to go through because it’s too long and I can’t cut them cleanly.

I’ll be writing instructions tonight ;)

shockandawe 08-02-2019 04:15 AM

I’ll take one as so as they’re ready, please let me know when they’re ready.

I guess Dremeling off the tip of the bolt will be an acceptable alternative? :)

Ben006 08-03-2019 08:55 AM

They are shipping to the Uniwerks Design on Monday ;)

Yes, you can cut the bolt yourself if you prefer that over drilling a hole !

Soon, I'll be fitting a full kit on a 996 GT3 Cup car :D

shockandawe 08-03-2019 08:57 AM

How much are they going to sell for?

OOOOOH I'm excited :D

rfuerst911sc 08-05-2019 02:33 AM

Ben is any kind of lubricant/grease suggested for any of the pivot points ? Or just install dry ?

Ben006 08-05-2019 02:51 AM

No, grease is definitely required for longevity !
Any high pressure grease will do. No copper/aluminum paste.

I just dropped the package right now :)

rfuerst911sc 08-05-2019 05:50 AM

Will install instructions be included ? If yes will they point to what or where they need to be greased ? Or maybe can you explain on this forum ?

Ben006 08-05-2019 10:27 AM

Chris at Uniwerks will mail the PDF instructions to the customers :)
I've ditched the printed instruction... too much wasted paper !

Grease should be used at the main friction points : The joint between the shifter and the lever (delrin insert) and the pivot for the cable end.

rfuerst911sc 08-05-2019 12:17 PM

So petroleum based standard grease is sufficient ? Sorry to be a pain but I want to do this right the first time .

Ben006 08-14-2019 10:51 AM

Yes, should be alright :)

Here is the link for the parts, they are in stock !

Quadcammer 08-15-2019 08:56 AM

Anybody try these out yet? price is a bit steep for what I'm imagining to be a fairly small difference.

Ben006 08-15-2019 09:42 AM

If your shifter is like new, it won't make a huge difference no, but my bet it's that it's not... I've never seen one (and I'm a Porsche Tech so I get to see a LOT !) in good condition.
So it will make a huge difference !

The price is "high" because it's a fairly small production, I can't afford to make 5000 of them to get a real low price !

The complete kit shifter + lever is still cheaper than many aftermarket short shifter ;)

Ordered mine today will report back once received and installed .

Ben006 08-20-2019 09:53 AM

Cool ! Please take pictures ;)

rfuerst911sc 08-22-2019 03:05 PM

The part arrived today it's a good looking piece . I have not received any install directions .

rfuerst911sc 08-23-2019 03:42 AM

This morning I sent an email to Chris at Uniwerks asking for install instructions .

rfuerst911sc 08-23-2019 04:53 AM

Just received an email from Chris with the install instructions , very quick service  I have purchased another shifter housing so I plan on doing the bench work this weekend . I am going to take this opportunity to strip my console down and paint it silver to match the car .

rfuerst911sc 08-25-2019 09:14 AM

This morning I decided to assemble the short shifter and side lever upgrade into an extra housing I purchased specifically for this . They are cheap enough to purchase and this allows easy swap to go back to stock if need be . Anyway I started with the hole that needs to be drilled for the side lever . I measured the shoulder of the bolt with mic's and came up with .469 , looked at my multiple drill indexes and found a 15/32 which is .469 . Chucked the bit into my cordless drill and drilled through the outside , lined up by eye and drilled the inside wall . After drilling the inside wall I continued pushing forward with the drill and it cleaned out the little wall where the nut goes . Took all of 30 seconds to do . I slid the shoulder bolt into the hole it was quite snug which is what I wanted .

Then I grabbed the short shifter and installed ( loosely ) the short shifter and side lever into the housing . It takes a little fussing but no big deal . Every wear point received a liberal coating of marine/off road grease . Assembled the bearings/cups for the shifter including the pennies :D and started adjusting . I adjusted the shifter so the ball that goes into the side lever was aprox. in the middle of the teflon bushing . I used a little bit of red Loctite on all the threads . It feels like there is zero play north/south so I think I have the cups/bearing pre load set correctly . Side to side feels very precise with just a little bit of a catch/detent feel going into the 1st/2nd plane I assume this is normal .

I am probably weeks away from installing in the car as I'm going to pull the console and prep/paint it to match the exterior of the car . Here are two pics of the finished product , I will post my final thoughts after I install in the car and drive it for a bit . And last but not least , thanks to Ben for making these and Chris at Uniwerks for being honest and easy to work with guys .

Hi guys !

Just letting you know that I'm making another update on the Short Shifters !
This one you can retrofit easily on your old one and it should make it even better after a few years !

I'll be posting pictures soon :)

Sounds good!

Hi Ben, I have received the kit as you know but I have no instructions which is fine as it seems quite straightforward. The only question is the hole that has to be drilled, is it really 15/32? If so why such a weird size? Is 12mm ok or is it too large?
Terry

rfuerst911sc 09-15-2019 02:57 PM

Online conversion charts state 12MM is equal to 15/32 .

Ben006 09-16-2019 09:42 AM

it's a 10mm hole, I can't tell you what that equals too in inches :/

I'll try something to post the instructions here ;)
