I'll jump on the bandwagon - got mine yesterday!

Any tips or links to threads on installation would be appreciated.

Thanks Ben!

Here is what you should get in the box:
http://nsa38.casimages.com/img/2016/...0432133875.jpg

The center section might have the bearing already fitted to it
http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2016/...0434508964.jpg

Or in the cups:
http://nsa38.casimages.com/img/2016/...9044262798.jpg

It doesn't really matter, it all comes together the same!
http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2016/...0439197372.jpg

Always leave the "one cent washer" in there (cheapest soft metal washer that fit!).
http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2016/...0904391198.jpg
http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2016/...0441169299.jpg

If one bearing get stuck in the cup, if you've follow the previous rule, you will have no trouble getting it out using the big set screw.
http://nsa38.casimages.com/img/2016/...0441426699.jpg

I recommend you to do the job outside the car, it takes only 4 more screws to undo, but makes it really easy.

If during installation the first bearing keeps on falling, a drop of super glue will secure it. JUST A SMALL DROP ;)

The pelicanpart article about the short shifter installation is very good, that's what I've used the first time I did it.

The hardest parts are getting the center console out, and breaking the old plastic cups (small chisel will do the job, the white plastic is brittle and will easily break if you hit the right spot without damaging the soft black plastic.)

Good luck with your install guys! I hope you will enjoy it as much as I, and the other do :)

Also, there is one left to grab ;)

Ben.

Dubaday 03-18-2016 12:22 PM

One left?

I replied to your PM Ben. Hoping that one will come my direction :)

redbox986 03-20-2016 03:51 PM

I installed mine today. Went in perfectly. Feels great. Thanks Ben!

Ben006 03-20-2016 04:30 PM

cool :)

It can feel weird the first days for some...
You might also want to check and adjust it if needed in a few weeks.

Ben.

If adjustment is needed what is to be adjusted. Haven't installed mine yet just asking.

Ben006 03-20-2016 05:34 PM

Just the set screw:
http://nsa38.casimages.com/img/2016/...0441426699.jpg

no need to take everything apart, you should be able to adjust it by hand (Undo the nut, tighten the screw by hand). :)

dsallean 03-21-2016 07:03 AM

Got mine. Can't wait to install it.

oldskool73 03-21-2016 04:52 PM

Received in Australia, thanks!

Now to pluck up the courage to break the plastic bits on the old one...

Ben006 03-21-2016 05:00 PM

That was fast!

It took me around 15min and three re-reading of the tutorial to finally do it, but you'll see, it's worth it :)

Ben.

Ben006 03-27-2016 03:24 PM

Hi guys!

I had 5 people waiting for the next round!
Who else's in?!

Ben.

tommy583 03-27-2016 04:24 PM

I'm in........................................ :)

01BOXYS 03-28-2016 05:17 PM

So I just installed my new shifter and matches my marking on the cables when I reattached them and it seems like it's tight and it takes slightly more force to get into each gear. I just want to verify it should feel like this. It feels solid just different.

Yes, the throw being 30% shorter, you need 30% more force to shift.
You'll get use to it don't worry, mine felt weird for a week ;)

Ben.

01BOXYS 03-28-2016 06:26 PM

Ball bearing short shifter !

Thanks for confirming. I'm excited to get out and drive it tomorrow to test it out.

Thanks again for putting together this high quality shifter!

I'll second that. Very positive feel to it. Gonna take some getting used to it.

And since winter just came back, might be a few days....

Dubaday 03-29-2016 08:24 PM

I couldn't resist, installed it today. Very impressed, thanks again.

Edreamsz 03-30-2016 05:58 AM

I would really like to buy one! Please let me know of you still have one left.

Ben006 03-30-2016 07:02 AM

I'm starting a new round, I'll PM you right now ;)

Yellow986S 03-31-2016 02:17 PM

I'm interested in one for the new round. Please pm me with pricing.

Ben006 03-31-2016 05:40 PM

Done ;)

I installed a shifter today!
Took me around an hour :)

few tips:
-To remove the center console, it's better it the hand brake is a bit loose: it has to go high. You can also engage the 4th gear, you'll have more room to remove it.
-Get that: SureBilt/4 pcs. seal and O-Ring remover set 82030 - Read Reviews on SureBilt #82030
It can be used to remove the lower section of the mid console, pry the shift boot and access the screw hidden under the coin holder!
Trust me, it will save you a LOT of time!
-Use zip ties to mark the position of the cables in their holders, and use bigger zip ties to hold the spring compressed when you put the cable back in:

We have almost reach the minimum amount of people to start ;)

Ben.

cbadbox 04-02-2016 08:05 AM

I have had my 99 3.4 for almost 2 years now but just now finding some time to work on, get back to the forum and discovered both of the Ben threads. Ben your enthusiasm is impressive!

PM me and let me know what info you need, I want a shifter from the next round. I haven't turned a wrench much in the last thirty years but did enjoy replacing the rotors, pads and sensors last week. :D

Still trying to education myself about induction options and what will work best for my 3.4. Currently the throttle response is not very smooth and I am sure there is a way to get more out of it without spending a fortune.

Thanks

Ben006 04-02-2016 09:33 AM

Pm sent ;)

cbadbox 04-02-2016 09:41 AM

Thanks for the advice, I'll be educating myself as I now have the time to play with the boxster.

Sent my info

Jschindler 04-04-2016 10:09 AM

Ben.

Ben006 04-07-2016 04:42 PM

Hop, no more to grab!
Sold out for this time :)

Thanks guys!

Ben.

Ben006 04-09-2016 03:22 PM

Hi guys,

here is the link to follow the bearings shipment. Since it's usually to longest to arrive, you can consider that once I receive them you'll receive your shifter soon after :)

Thanks!

Here's a good mod if you have a BBSSK ;)

I'm going to shorten the knob even more...

Benitom 04-17-2016 10:04 AM

Installed short shifter this morning - the only rookie mistake I made was not ordering a new Shift linkage Coupling, mine was fairly warn. I just ordered a new one from Parts Geek. Hardest part was removing the original shifter. I used a dremel to shave down the plastic then a large flat head screw driver to push it out. Will take it for a spin this evening - wife had to leave and I have the little ones with me.

Thanks again Ben006

amagalla 04-17-2016 12:13 PM

Please let me know when you make another run of these.

Thanks.

Tony

Ben006 04-17-2016 05:48 PM

I will ;)

Benitom: Cool, tell me how you like it (I hope you do!) ;)

Looks like the shifters will be there tomorrow, and the bearings too, so everything should be done before next Monday!!

Thanks guys!
Ben.
