Read an auto story today about the writer taking a P85D on a trip. He had to stop every 200 miles to supercharge for an hour. All for only $80,000.

These are nothing but expensive toys.

If Porsche/Tesla/etc really wanted to change the world, they would offer a 3-series sedan with 350 miles of range with a 5 min full recharge that sells for $40K. Until that happens, e-cars are curiosities, not real transportation.

The last 20% of charging indeed takes a long time. But you can get the first 50 miles worth of charge in SIX MINUTES.
Getting to 80% would take 45 minutes. So Going from 18 miles left to back to 230 miles in under an hour of supercharging, is not something the typical driver would even need to do every day.

Also, wouldn't 200 miles driven take the typical driver about 3 hours? I think you have to be cut out for being stuck in a car that long in the first place.
Any longer than than that and I'm on my jet.

solution is simple: Tesla should offer free car rentals for the next 10 years for anyone that needs to drive over 200 miles in a day but they MUST drive over 200 miles in a day and there would be limits, like no more than 10 rental days a year, etc (that's less than 1 day a month).

99.9% of buyers would never use that more than one day a year but 99.9% of buyers would feel a lot better about spending $80,000 on a car with a 200 range.
