Mike covers everything you need to know about the MAF here:

If you have a K&N air filter installed you may consider replacing it with a stock filter.

I've got that exact Bluetooth reader and it works like a champ. I have windows phone so I use ODB doctor. Another one I have used is AutogaugeX. It is more convenient for checking simple codes than durametric and way cheaper than a hardware odb 2 scanner.

If you have an iPhone, many of the low cost Bluetooth readers will be difficult to use. I financially went with a WiFi version and it works well

Of course for anything serious, I use my durametric

Sounds like you may be heading for a MAF Sensor replacement.

I think so, the light has not reoccurred. Keeping my eye on it for now, might clean the MAF sensor this weekend.
