CEL after dealer oil change.
 

Sent the car to the dealer for an oil change Saturday as well as a slight look over as it had smoked oddly Thursday morning. Got the car back, and drove it this morning, ran great, but I noticed a CEL when parking the car, I do not believe it was on until then, I have checked the gas cap and oil cap, and am unsure as for why the CEL is on.

Idle with the clutch depressed seems high at around 1.1k.

2000 S with 90k miles. Any suggestions before I get the code scanned? Car starts and runs fine, much better actually after the oil change. Yet I have a solid illuminated CEL.

Vacuum leak? Although I do not know what from an oil change could cause that? Maybe a tear in the dipstick tube if they used that to check the oil, or maybe dipstick not seated? That would cause a vacuum leak I think.

You need to have the computer (DME) read and post the code here. Then you will get the answer.....

Dipstick seems seated well, half expecting the light to clear itself soon, but driving it to the dealer tomorrow. Dash oil gauge shows oil at 1 click below full, then when I got home it showed 3 clicks below. Before the oil change the dash gauge always showed full.

This is why my I do my own maintenance. Could be the oil filter canister didn't get tightened all the way or the filter itself didn't seat properly. Could be missing the drain plug crush ring.

Plus I get to inspect the oil filter.

could be LOTS of things. At 90K miles it could be a weak O2 sensor or the such.

My 2000S with throw a "check engine" every few months for one of the sensors (heating circuit IIRC). I'll clear the code and that's it until the next random time it hits.

No biggie.

Get one of those cheep bluetooth code readers ELM327

Mini ELM327 V1 5 OBD2 II Bluetooth Car Auto Diagnostic Interface Scanner Tool | eBay

Download torque or one of the many free readers and it will tell your smart phone what it is and even look it up for you.

Jake, you should do your own oil changes and probably invest in a durametric as you plan on having a Porsche for a long time.

The oil change is really easy and if you use M1 get the oil at wallyworld, around $25 for 5 quarts. The oil filter is less than $15 shipped

Would've done the oil myself, but the fact the car was acting odd before this had me wanting it looked over. Thanks for all the info though, eager to find out tomorrow.

I was lucky enough to get the mechanic to check the filter, no metal shavings or plastic, oil was thick and old though. Has been maybe 6k miles since last change. Car felt silky smooth post oil change.

Part of me is worried I may have got bad gas. 93 at spinx. The car started acting odd after a fill up last Tuesday night.

Doctor, I'm not felling good and it hurts. Can you tell me what it is?

Never assume a mechanic is going to do any more than they have to to get you out the door and gone. Now there are exceptions to this rule but these are usually long relationships with a mechanic who truly do a good job...but they are paid by the job and the sooner you are gone the quicker he (or she) can start another job and make more money. Do your work yourself....I didn't know one thing about a Boxster when I joined this forum....I learn every day

Maf sensor. Code cleared, and for the time being light out.

Did your dealer service include a new air filter?

The light has not illuminated, but the computer is clearly struggling to get an idle it likes. I've got a buddy with an obd scanner so I may have him come by the weekend and look at cleaning things out and see what we can find.
