I'm just friendly I wave at anyone with a sports car. With the Corvette guys some wave some just look confused. I've owned a lot more Corvettes than P cars and a lot of people in corvettes won't even wave at an earlier version. Most Miata guys are pretty good. Ferraris I don't know.
I ride a Honda ST1300 and I wave at anybody on two wheels. Sometimes the Harley guys are a little stuffy but I try. Most of the scooter people are thrilled. Of course you have to know how to do the reverse low peace sign to be cool.

I use all of my Porsches to commute about 50 miles round trip. The same guys that wave when I'm in my 996TT or one of my 986s never wave when I'm in my 924S.

On back roads I always flash my lights at any oncoming Porsche but when playing Nascar on the Interstate during rush hours, I wave as I pass another Porsche

Your sister flashes me even when she isn't in your car. I think she wants me to throw her some beads

I was wondering what the deal was with all the plane tickets to New Orleans.

Because i live in Porsche country near Zuffenhausen there are too much Porsches around. So if i'm driving in this area i only wave to 986 drivers. Mostely they wave back. But some don't.

If you wave to 996 drivers, sometimes they wave back. 997/991 drivers seems to have no hands to wave back. I also know that i only drive a 986 - so i'm not smart and rich enough to get their respect.

924, 944, and 928 drivers mostely wave back.

Never tried to wave to Panameras, Cayennes, or Macans. Have no experience with 911 G, or 993 drivers.

Regards

Only 986's wave to me in my 996 (and yes, I wave back). 987, 996, 997, etc owners never wave.

I ignore the Porsche sedans and SUV's; First, they are lost in a sea of other sedans and SUV's. Second, not much in common with a mom with 3 screaming kids in the back or an Arab prince. Generally I feel that they bought the badge, not the car. I know that's not always true but I don't see a lot of Cayenne's or Panamera's in the canyon's, AX, or track.

I'd wave to u in my Cayenne!

Mike

generally speaking I will wave or nod to a flat engine Porsche / driver whenever seen. as far as the suv and 4 door drivers, they are generally waaaaaay too self absorbed to bother with and generally look at you like you are insane. an earlier post mentioned miatas, as a Miata owner also, we always wave, or if we're not too busy run each other down and hold conversations. as a former alfa romeo spider owner, we always ran each other down, always had conversations (but they were generally about who is fixing them or where to get parts to fix them

Had a Lotus Elise pull up to the pump next to mine at the gas station today as I was leaving.
I did the slow roll, checking it out. The driver was also checking out the 986, but as soon as I looked up at him and waved, he looked away and wouldn't acknowledge my existence. Funny...

I agree, bring back the flash.

My older brother bought a new 914 in the early 70's. Back then, you rarely saw a Porsche where we lived. One day a 911 was coming the other way and flashed his lights, we waved back. It was a pretty cool experience.

I live in a small town of only about 10,000. I'm aware of 5 other Porsches here: 2 944s, 1 987 Boxster, 1 997 Cabrio and a 991 C4S. We ALL wave to each other. Met the 991 owner while I was washing my car; he came up and struck up a conversation about mine. The 997 driver is the father of my son's friend, me makes me rev when I drop my son off because he "kinda has a man-crush on my car."

Around here, Vette owners are a dime a dozen, only had one ever initiate a wave and one strike up a conversation at the car wash. Most just look away.

A few months ago, however, I did get passed on the interstate by an Elise from out of the state. He paced alongside me for a bit, with a big wave, we checked out each other's cars for a few seconds, then off he went.

I've just always assumed that the "car people" don't care whether theirs is more expensive than mine, they just like cool cars. The people who buy just for the badge (doesn't matter which one) are elitist.

Small town here too and all the Porsches seem to wave at each other or flash their headlights.
The confusing thing is the million or so Harleys that come through on their way to/from Sturgis. They almost never wave at a lowly Ducati rider, but occasionally one will. I don't initiate a wave at them since my existence is so far beneath their acknowledgement, but I do wave back if they wave at me.

Oh, I get attention. People, in all types of cars, on bikes, walking, whatever, will stare. Which makes me very uncomfortable. What the HECK is the big deal?

But no one waves . . .

They're the same (what you said) when I drive any other car.

It's like they've never seen a woman drive a sports car before.

IF the Boxster is such a "chick car" you'd think everyone would be used to it.

I tried waving a few times when I first got the Boxster, but just gave up after a while.

they all get the "texas two-finger" wave. SUV's no. The boxster guys here tend to go out of their way to full hand wave or noticeable head nod. good group here in texas!

I was telling my wife about this thread, and on the way to the cottage today waved at a Boxster with no response, my wife laughed and reminded me we were driving our Canyon! Lol

Not a lot of Boxsters here in the area - so was excited when I passed one the other day. Gave him a big wave only to receive a big cold shoulder in return. I actually felt let down.

I waved at every 911, Cayman and Boxster I saw the first year. Few waved back, so I've stopped. I think the 911 owners look upon the Boxster as inferior, although an air-cooled mid-80's Targa stopped next to me last year and complimented the color of my 986 (Rainforest Green). I thanked him and said I'd rather be driving his car. He laughed, the light turned green, we waved and parted ways.

Oddly, I seem to NEVER see another Boxster when I'm driving mine. It's almost always when I'm in my second car (used to be Acura CL, now BMW 330Ci), and it would be kind of stupid to wave at them from one of those vehicles, wouldn't it?
