My rule is to never, ever believe someone else's diagnosis on car that you might buy. You can almost always be sure that there is something else wrong with the car because if it was "that simple" the existing owner would have already fixed it and would be selling the car for a lot more.

In these cases, you need to get a VERY thorough PPI done to check everything to know what you're getting into.

For example, my $3K Boxster roller had several other problems than just the blown engine and my $10K 996 had a long list of issues that the owner never mentioned.

Buyer beware on cheap Porsche's with "known" problems.
