After joining forum 5 yrs ago, finally bought my first Boxster :)

Introduction: been a member here for 5 years (on rennlist for 7) and I finally bought my first boxster:

it's a black 98 2.5 manual with 99,xxx on it. Paid $8,995 at a local dealer, almost half I paid cash so my 36 month payment is very low, probably pay it off this spring. I've seen them for less on ebay and my original plan was to save a bit more and pay all cash but it was nice to be able to test drive and inspect this one without flying somewhere and being "stuck" ~1,000 miles from home if the car didn't turn out to be what I thought it was.

Posted photos on facebook and everyone loves it. Even people I haven't talked to in years want a ride Immediately family is in shock/disbelief. If you ever want to make your father-in-law jealous/envious/proud show up in a porsche

Reason I joined 5 years ago and it took me *this* long to buy one is I was presented with the opportunity to either buy a boxster or pay off my house and I chose to pay off the house. I'm 33 and I have my house paid for and drive a porsche

I know 99,000 is getting up there, I'm ready to put aside $300/mo for repairs/maintenance/etc.

Anyway that's my introduction, sorry if I come off as (INSERT) but I'm very happy right now that everything's working out ... hope i'm not setting myself up for a IMS failure

Congrats. 33, paid off house, new to you paid off Porsche in a few months, you're doing something right. Enjoy the Porsche and feeling like a rock star for the first year of so of ownership. Don't worry about the IMS, deal with it when you address a clutch replacement if you want.

This is my first manual so I'm sure a clutch replacement isn't too far off

My home isn't my "dream house" but at least it's a "real" house, not a "house" on wheels in a park I use to be a real estate agent and bought investment property, flipped some homes, rented out others, and did alright until the market crashed. I could have picked up a decent rehab and flipped it for the price of this porsche but I said no, get the porsche, I'm not getting any younger, more houses will come along.

Hope to sell this for ~5k and pick up a 3.4 S in a few years after getting tired of the "weak" 2.5. My other car (winter beater now?) is a Toyota Avalon 3.0 so even a 2.5 boxster is much faster.

Thanks for all the support! Never know what you're going to get on a forum, but you guys are great.

It actually is very clean inside and out considering the mileage. Several friends have already said they can't believe it has 99,xxx on it it looks so good and it's hard to keep a black car looking good since every ding shows up.

Kudos, paid off house and soon-to-be-paid off Boxster. That thing's a beauty, you wouldn't think it was a 98. Enjoy!

Love the colour combo. Don't lose the ambers, they look great.

And don't worry about the IMS. All I'd say is make sure you warm her up properly every you time you take her out. Then drive her like you stole her.

Enjoy.

Nice, very nice! Enjoy the ride. I'm 51 and am trying to pay the house off (divorce many years ago didn't help), hoping to do it in next few years. Every time I get the urge to order the new 911 or a Spyder I just go down stairs and take the 2000 'S' for a spin.

Post more pics when you have a chance. Welcome to the family.

Oh don't get me started on women! I almost married the wrong one, dodged that bullet, she left me but it was the best thing that ever happened. Joined the Army to get my head straight, figured out real estate was the answer (during the bubble), then met a very nice young girl and got to practically raise her (she's 11 yrs my junior). I get to make all the decisions since she never has, she's never paid a utility bill or cellphone bill or even a credit card so as long as the bills are paid and she has food and clothes she's happy and I get to spend money on toys and she graduates nursing school in the spring so more money for me

Went driving today since I need the practice driving a stick before taking it to work tomorrow. Here's the boxster with the Piasa Bird in Alton

Hope you're prepared for change. Nursing teaches critical decision making skills that are only available in medicine or the military.

Great looking car, best of luck with it!

Congratulations on your purchase. You're doing it right. My first Boxster was a 2001 with 90,000 miles on the 2.5. It ran great, handled better and never had a problem. You won't have any more fun if you spent 20,000 more so enjoy the driving - and the double-take people you know give you when you pull up in your Porsche.
