I usually work from within the door, but what Zordrack says will work.
Here's some pics.

With the door panel removed, looking back at the door handle from the inside:

Handle and latch close, but not connected:

As they sit within the door when installed:

The forum host, Pelican Parts, has some good instructions. https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/78-BODY-Door_Handle_and_Lock/78-BODY-Door_Handle_and_Lock.htm

Got it figured out now?

This is awesome! I felt the collar and was able to slide it forward already. So to remove the threaded arm that attaches to the outer door handle, you just rotate that piece out of the slot?

LMFAO I feel like such an idiot now.

I had to replace both door latches and spent hours of swearing (in multiple languages) and literal drops of blood trying to fight getting everything back together in just the right way for the handles to be flush.

..... And all I had to do was slide the collar back and get it into place.....

Thanks guys. This is a lesson I will not be forgetting
