'02 80,000 mi service coming up-replace what?
My'02 is my daily driver that I have always driven at least 4,000 miles per year and I plan to keep her. At 80,000 miles what other preventative maintenance should I consider? The engine is great and never burns oil and has only a small amount of leaking. Thanks, Tom

I would consider replacing the water pump preventatively, and if you are going to drain the coolant system, you may want to also consider a low temperature thermostat. 90k is more the major service, but I would still check your drive belt and fluids. If you have never had your transmission fluid changed you might consider doing that too.

My '00 w/102,000 miles is on its 3rd or 4th water pump, I've lost count.

Daily driver in Boston? Don't take this the wrong way but at 80K miles I would consider selling for a lower mileage Boxster. Cold engine starts and these engines get along worse and worse the closer you get to 100K miles. If your car is in good shape and can get a good asking price I would consider it. I drive my car year-round in the North East as well and after crossing the 70K mile mark the car has gone from the most reliable car I ever owned to one expensive repair after another. I've also been reading speculation by some reliable contributors familiar with these engines that winter temps are especially taxing on this generation of engine, there seems to be a common denominator there as far as harsh weather.

That's easy....
....you should change:
IMS bearing with the "IMS Solution" from Flat 6 Innovations.
Water Pump.
Rear Main Seal.
Air/Oil Separator.
All the cam chain tensioners.
Spark Plugs.
Thermostat with low temp version.
Brake fluid.
If you choose NOT to replace the IMS, then at least install the LN spin-on oil filter adaptor.
Lose that OEM oil filter assembly.
Happy motoring.

Is this the same/similar to the LN IMS?
Better?

Fluids.
Proactively changing hardware is fine if you want but don't forget the easy, important stuff.
I'm sure you keep your oil changed but don't forget to others!
Brake fluid, gear oil, PS fluid.

I'd add spark plug tubes and o-rings to the list if they haven't already been done. Especially if that small amount of leaking is from the area of the heads.
Change Spark Plugs and Tubes Boxster DIY
Mine came out just like in post #7 of this thread, only difference was I had a section of old heater hose cut to fit the mid-section of the 'extraction tool':

The IMS solution sounds good but is about $1700 in parts and requires 2 separate tool kits to install it for another $5-600. LN,s replacement ceramic ball bearing is supposed to be changed at 70,000 intervals. I just replaced a perfectly good 16 yr old original with about 65,000 on it so if LNs ball bearing replacement lasts that long the car will be 32 yrs old next time it,s needed.
