I drove a BMW 335d and was amazed at the power. They do so much with Diesel in Europe its unbelievable and only a limited number of models seem to go for export

Yeah emissions is the hard part on diesels. They can produce loads of power. The amount of energy for diesel fuel vs. Gas is greater. Look at the truck mags and you will see trucks 6 and 7 k in weight pulling in low 11 second quarter mile times. That's some serious power!

The R8 that almost came out was supposed to have 738 lbs of torque!

Not w/ the urea (DEF) additives any more. Most states exempt DEF equipped cars, SUVs and trucks from emissions testing b/c it's so clean.

I'm with Tinker and Raby on this. I have no problem at all with the change. I've been looking at new Boxsters and Caymans the past few weeks. Can't decide if I want to stay with a convertible anymore.

If we get a little more info on when these may be available, I just may wait on one.

It would be nice if the boxsters had a retractable hard top. I understand the weight penalty, but it would be quieter and no more worn out tops.

Being that the Boxster/Cayman is Porsche's only true sports car not sure that will happen. Plus the development costs and the low volumes makes it difficult to justify. But then again they did just do a wildly complex Targa top for the Carrera so who knows. A hardtop would broaden the appeal.

This could be done with a manual lever on ball bearing track of some kind, and using light weight composite materials. I'm not sure why everything has to be motorized or require someone to get out of the car and fiddle with each side.

Because the majority of new model Boxsters are bought by people who want the image.
Fancy being seen by your neighbours manually opening or closing the top.

I mean dhaaarling, its just not done is it, not when one can just press that little button thingy.......
Fiddling with each side could positively RUIN my nails !
