Yesterday and today (I had to wait on some parts), I replaced the rear trailing arms thanks to the great DIY located here. While I was doing that, I ended up replacing the rear underbody panel and the 2 rear wheel mud guards(all three were worn out), then I did my oil and filter change with no sparkles on my magnetic drain plug, rotated the tires, and then finally I washed and waxed it! My original LN magnetic drain plug failed when I was tightening it back up so I got another one which is a new design and it doesn't look like this one will fail. Oh, and then I took some pictures before I took it for a "test drive" since it was such a nice evening :D

So....how exactly did you rotate tires? Aren't your staggered? Mine are. |

Completed my first track days with my new Boxster - NJMP Thunderbolt and Lightning with PCA Schattenbaum. The car ran great and I was very happy to outpace a couple of prepped Spec Boxsters with my stock (except brake pads) car. I also beat my personal best on Lightning, which was set in a 550HP M3 :D

Yesterday and today I cleaned out my garage so my new to me Boxster S could become a garage queen once again!

AutoX
Did a Autocross for the first time on Saturday, what a BLAST!. Some other forum members were also in attendance. Now I need new brakes, oil change and a good detailing. The list of items to go over this winter keeps getting longer. :D

My Frankencar is going back to OE...maybe
well my Subaru powered (EJ2.5 SOHC) 98' Boxster is looking like it will return to an OE engine soon (CA smog is a bit*&)....
so two things now, 1- anybody got a spare running drivetrain??? 2-anybody interested in a plug-n-play Subie setup (will support any Subie motor)? LMAO @ me http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1476725295.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1476725344.jpg |
Sub-install and Detailed
Put some thump in the audio by adding an Alpine PWE-S8 powered sub in the passenger footwell. The install was super easy and 100% reversible. The PWE-S8 was easy to work with, is built like a tank, and has a single quick connector for power and sound - so it can be quickly stowed in the trunk if more room is needed or theft is a concern. Still playing around with were it fits/sounds best.
I upgraded the dash speakers to Infinity REF-4022cfx's a few months ago to my otherwise stock CDR-23 and now with the sub it is putting out some decent sound. This isn't going to wow any audiophiles or bass heads, but loud enough and very listenable. No pictures of the sub install yet but here is one of the outside after a thorough detail. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1476730056.jpg |

Beautiful Box. Love the blue on silver and painted bumperettes. I have an 03 base with Bose that sounds less than impressive, and wonder what a speaker upgrade would do. But I really and truly don't listen to the stereo much in this car, as I enjoy the other sounds it makes far better. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Not today..... But here's a picture from the Peachstate PCA Tail of the Dragon tour on 10/5. Great fun!!

New Turn Signals w/added OBC
I replaced my defective 3 stalk controls over the weekend with a new 4 stalk.
(Thanks Pdwight for the excellent wiring harness and advice) http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1477311466.jpg All I need to do is get the OBC activated and I'm all set!! |
Saturday I finally put an amp in that fits where the CD changer was. I am not happy with the mounting, but I did get my temporary amp off the floor of the frunk, so its step in the right direction.
Sunday we did the PCA fall rally for our region. Lots of great back roads, tons of fun. |

My turn signals stopped cancelling and the cruise control didn't work. For $50 more than a 3 stalk I was able to get a 4 stalk and use this OBC Upgrade link to install it (with the wiring harness I got from Pdwight) Porsche Boxster On Board Computer (OBC) Upgrade and Turn Signal Switch Replacement - 986 / 987 (1997-08) - Pelican Parts Technical Article |

road trip
Drove to Bradford Pa to visit the Zippo/Case museum. Nice drive and museum.

Made plans to head to Dallas pick up GF and drive through the Ouachita Mountains of west-central AR. The leaves should be turning and plenty of twisting winding curves, first time to drive the box how it was meant to be driven. Mnts, valleys, rivers, two really large national forest. It’s surprisingly gorgeous and was surprised myself first time I drove there in the BWM. We’ll base out of Hot Springs.

Put it to sleep for the winter... sigh

Adjustable variable wipers the easy way. Wish I had done this years ago. Total cost was around 20$ cdn.
|
Love that anti-gravity polish, may have to get some.
Not today, but Saturday, replaced waterpump, thermostat and serpentine belt. With the help of this forum it was too easy. My next project, after research on 986Forum, will be replacement of all bushings front and rear, then an alignment as I've got some serious negative camber going on in the rear. |

did the plasti - dip on radio knobs - worked well .
had new tires put on friday - things are shaping up |
|
Cleaned out radiators for first time at 132K miles..lots of junk but I don't expect to notice any difference as the car never ran warm anyway. Plan to re-rout emergency frunk cable while I have the bumper off.
|
Drove it to work. Mid engine + traction control + winter tires = surprisingly good on snow and ice!
