Was actually last Sunday
But I changed spark plugs, spark plug tubes and oil. Will flush coolant and replace thermostat with the low temp one in the next 2 weeks.
|
I have an 01S
And I can tell you that there are no Oxygen sensors on the secondary cats...in fact the secondary cats are sitting in my basement.....TG we have no emissions here in AL

What get's me is the 2003 Base doesn't have them according to EJ-Fresno and my 2003 S does have them. The Porsche PET doesn't show them as S model specific. If they were they would put M008 in the Model column. M008 stands for 986 S 3.2 Litres Displacement. http://www.986online.com/cgi-bin/ASI_Store.cgi?Search+XPage_optioncodes.html http://i60.tinypic.com/2hpnh1e.jpg |
According to the Bentley, all 2000 and up have the precatalytic converters with pre and post O2 sensors.
I'm not up to speed on emissions, but I believe the sensors are required on 1 cat on each side. I don't see any on the rear cats, so maybe if you have them on the rear cats, they won't be on the precats? This is definitely strange... 1997-1999. http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...947C763097.jpg 2000-2004. http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...18CA850AB5.jpg |

I've read that people will put secondary cat delete pipes on the cars that don't have the O2 bung holes and they just tie the secondary O2 Sensors up out of the way and no CEL light from doing that. Not even sure what their function really is if you can tie them up and not throw a CEL. |
6 Speed Trans Oil Change
I changed the MT fluid in my '03 S (74k km). A relatively simple job made difficult due to the triangular brace/skid plate below the transmission. The fill plug is easy access but a little awkward to fill from the fluid bottle. After impersonating a contortionist all is good. Luckily I'll likely never have to do it again
Shifting feels real smooth. |
Went to lunch with the Wiff. Was spotted by some friends who are quick with the iCamera:

Bought one of these today!
I'm lucky enough to live about 15 min from the show room in Santa Clara, so was able negotiate a nice cash deal. Will be installing this weekend and will post Picts! |
Flip Flop

Installed new hood shocks(struts). 20 minutes tops
|
Installed a Wind Stop Clip on the passenger side roll bar.
|
BFeller...you can do that? I have one that rattles a bit because it is not a very tight fit.
|
After a new air oil separator went in earlier this week I drove it almost 800km today, top down all day. Totally forgot about sunscreen and now I have a burnt nose, but totally worth it!
|
I washed it and then failed to do an oil change. I got motul 8100 and a filer wrench from amazon. Got it up onto the ramps, opened my amazon box, and realized that the filter and filter wrench were being shipped separately....

Went out to lunch at the Olive Garden. Top down.
Came home and conditioned All the weatherstripping. Siliconed the mechanism for the clamshell, top And locks Annual oil change scheduled for This Friday. Using Royal Purple HPS 10w-40. 13 months 4,900 miles. Then put her to bed. |
Popped the bumper and cleaned out the rads! I cannot believe how much crud accumulates in there!
|
plastidipped my sticky knobs . . .
Radio knobs that is. They look brand new. Washed and waxed the exterior vacuumed and leather treated the interior.
 then I had a cold brew |

6 months / 6000 miles of ownership
Changed the oil and filter and Raggtopped the top to celebrate.
|
Brake lights were out so I pulled out the brake light switch and gave it a good cleaning and BINGO I had brake lights again. Then I took it for a long drive down the beach.
|
Super glued one upholder shut due to broken spring -- these guys are really worthless....
|
Brake/clutch fluid flush, changed air/cabin filters, topped up ps fluid, lubed the clamshell, and FINALLY installed the US size cigar lighter socket.
The bad news - I see one of my rear struts is leaking. Damn thing only lasted 135000km. I suppose my options are 1) buy a good used strut, 2) replace both rear struts with new, 3) replace all four struts, 4) ROW M030 kit. There's a decision that was already made ages ago. |
Bought an AFE air filter last year and finally got around to installing it today. After opening the engine bay, the usual dusty mess stared back at me. Since it was right in front of me and wasn't going to go away by itself, I hit it with a mixture of Simple Green and QuicknBrite cleaner. Used a 3" paint brush to scrub all the surfaces, then rinsed it with the garden hose. Sure looks a lot better now.
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1430805902.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1430805992.jpg Checked the drains while I had it opened up. Water drained out just fine, but I could see something stuck in the upper section of the drains just below the foam tray on both sides. Fished these out with a pair of needle nose pliers. Some PO or mechanic is probably still looking for that torx bit. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1430806276.jpg |
Took my '99 986 on four parade laps around Laguna Seca. I was fourth behind the pace 911 and there were 96 Porsches behind me so the pace car punched it and those of us in the front got to get some speed up. Normal parade lap speed is around 35-40 mph and normal parade laps are two but since there were 100 cars on the track the front group got up to spoiler up speed. Woohoo! Pics are from the grid.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1430836094.jpg

Got the suspension aligned. Yay! :)
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1430857983.jpg Found out my front shocks need replacement. Nay! :( |
Noticed Outside Temp Sensor had fallen out of its clip and was way down in the bottom of front bumper...re-installed in proper location, now the temp no longer reads 40 degrees too high!!! Now it agrees with Weather Channel app.
Lubed "clutch pedal spring" under dash--no more squeak!! Took apart accelerator pedal assembly. Lubed the two ball joints inside it-- no more "sticky" accelerator!!! |
Had the dent doctor come to the house and remove a few small dings. $75 well spent to keep her looking good.
|
Blew it up sadly - 3rd to 4th around 3000 rpm, white smoke, stopped no coolant, smell of oil from coolant! :(
Thinking liner gone or blow head, time to pay out I guess!!!! |
