What did you do with/to your Boxster today?
I got my paint fixed finally. When I got the car the paint looked like it had been last washed with steel wool..

[QUOTE=maytag;585481]How'd you fix it?
I paid my buddy to do it.. he ended up having to wet sand most of the body, got down to 3000 grit with the orbital polisher. The scratches were bad. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
New Spark Plugs
I installed new spark plugs in my 2004 Boxster @ 56,000 mies. I felt a dramatic improvement in acceleration. It pinned me to the seat. Very responsive. Don't know when they were last changed. Bought it 6 months ago.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1545334173.jpg

Replaced the voltage regular with a new Bosch part, now outputting 14.2v again and no battery light. :) Tuesday I changed the brake fluid.

No more 3000 rpm vibration
Replaced the front motor mount today. Took most of all day, even though Pelican said 2 hours. 5 hours due to inexperience and I had to go to a machine shop to have the new insert pressed in. I sort of felt a little taken advantage of by the machine shop. 40$ for 15 minutes work to pull the old mount and press in the new one. Come on. Sorry for the venting. Anybody else have the same experience? The car does drive quieter and a lot smoother. Love it now. Back to driving it again.
Happy Holidays. |
Install AUX cable
Removing the old CD deck in the front trunk and installing an AUX cable.
priceless.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1545534596.jpg |

Replaced passenger side front parking light. I had been using a cluged wrench until today when the awesome headlight housing removal wrench (tm) arrived from pelican parts. Next up, passenger side, side marker light bulb replacement. And then, the frunk light, which would have helped with the first task.

Installed Console Delete
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1545948021.jpg
Sooooo much more comfy for the right leg. Notice I'm using the uncovered hole for my sunglasses  My car came with Footwell Lights. They were riveted on to the old panels, so I drilled out the rivets and screwed them onto the new console. btw - I was not able to stuff the DSP board behind, so some research found you can bypass it by jumpering pins 2 and 6 (DSP Interupt, GND) on the connector and the amp will work. ;) |
ordered new poly all front bushes :)

Changed a headlight washer in the '01 S
Santa brought me a box of parts from Suncoast so i thought i would put the washer assembly in. Yes , I said assembly, you can't buy a nozzle for an '01 apparently.
A nozzle was missing on the driver side since i bought the car in October. Annoying. Head light removal was a breeze ( thank you Germany ) The easiest way to get the old washer out is to cut the old hose , remove the washer head, then take needle nosed vise grips and mangle the quick connect until it finally gives up and lets go. There is a risk of breaking the plastic connector it's attached to if you're not careful. I didn't break anything. If you cut the hose.... you are throwing out, then you can turn the quick connect as your're destroying it. Once out , snap on the new quick connect, then slide the new head into place. Tighten the nut snug....because you're going to need to adjust it so its sits perfectly in the hole in the headlight. Slide the light in , connect its quick connect, and lift the head light slightly as you slide it in so you don't smash off a brand new nozzle. I didn't. :)http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1546125253.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1546125273.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1546125288.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1546125310.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1546125328.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1546125344.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1546125359.jpg |
Look what my wife gave me for christmas!
Cold, snowy winters here, mean several months sitting. She and I both have summer toys that have dead batteries when they sit that long. She actually won this at a PCA christmas dinner. (Our intermountain region is AWESOME! haha) So I installed this today, with a hard-wired setup that terminates in a 12v power socket in the frunk. So pop the hood, plug it in, put the cover on. Good-to-go! Thanks baby! ;-) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c008cbf981.jpg Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk |
Added a Subwoofer to my upgraded BT stereo...finally, decent sound!
A while back I added a new stereo JVC X33BTS to my '98 986 with new dash speakers Alpine SPS-410's and new door speakers, Pioneer TS-A1676R's, but the sound was still pretty wimpy so, this week I let Santa buy me a subwoofer.
Spoiler alert: It's a huge improvement. No it's not a high-end system, but considering we're dealing with a noisy convertible and I drive 99% with the top down it's the best it's ever been and worth the small expense and effort. Due to lack of space anywhere else and not wanting kleptomaniacs to see the sub on the back deck, I mounted the Pioneer TS-WX130DA sub in the passenger footwell. It's 11 x 7.87 x 2.75", two bolts and three wires and it's in. It draws only 4.5A so is a simple install. Wires into the unswitched radio power and improves the sound noticeably. The remote, velcroed to the dash, is much better than fiddling with the radio controls and depending on the music, the adjustment can be a little or a lot to get acceptable music. All in all, for the price of a new tire I have decent tunes in my 20 year old joy ride. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1546136975.jpg |

Didn’t feel like any heavy lifting today so I installed my new Lid Liners. I modified the rear one slightly because it had some minor interference with the filler gasket.

Replaced my center bezel and switch bezels. The chipped ones looked crappy. I would have liked to stay with burlwood, but those parts cost a fortune.
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1546564360.jpg I used a Targa Shade tip switch for the garage door opener. I'm going to do the poor man's OBC using either a tip switch or a rotary with push button function. |

I have always wanted a set of those. Can you post a close up pic of your mod on the rear cover please?

I also considered the back deck area first for my sub, but with the glass window (it's a 98 with an aftermkt top) there's very little space, so mounting meant making it visible and tempting. Either there or in the front floor area makes for much better sound. It only took me a year to figure this out...

I used a thick piece of cardboard as a backing plate on the trunk lid and held the lid liner away from the trunk lid by placing a rag under it. I had already mounted it and did not want to take it off again so as not to damage the retaining clips. I did remove and replace the one clip by the cut. There’s a 15% discount code in effect at Lid Liners web site: RF14 https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...617d96a962.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0976eb684e.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
I guess this is the site the Oldcarguy was talking about. Maybe he will respond. I sent him a email. Asking price etc.

You can shop the part for best price. The OBC hack has you installing the four stalk lever assembly, but the poor man's version uses a tip switch. I have a spare window switch that I was using for GDO. Someone mentioned the Targa switch legends looked like a garage door, so I had to have it. The OBC hack is in various places on the Forum, but here's the article: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/box_OBD_Mod/box_obd_mod.htm I'm going to try a rotary encoder switch (like the one on the radio) to add "up" or "back" because you can use a third wire. Stay tuned for this one! |
Got a new ELM327 BT OBDII unit that is compatible with Porsche. My other one that worked on my VW would not communicate with the Boxster. Anyway, it's handy so I can clear the SAI codes with my phone until I can dig in and solve that issue.

My spoiler switch arrived from Germany today :D The instructions are quite detailed. Can't wait to install it :D
Also I have the lid liners as well. Got them from Pelican with the PCA discount. This should save me from another $300 dent-pro visit for the rear trunk lid :p https://i.imgur.com/YNJOoEL.jpg |
my hommage to the …

Installed the VW relay for the wiper delay.
The rain sensor was just finicky, and I wanted an adjustable one. The relay cost me 13.60 shipped from Latvia 12V 6Pin # 95VW17C499BA / 357955531 / No. 99 _TESTED RELAY_ VW Audi Seat Skoda. |
Waiting on parts so today was brake and clutch fluid purge/bleed. Took ~2.5 liters to get all of the green mystery fluid completely out of the brake and clutch system. The mystery fluid was too high in water content & I did have some air. Motul 600 happily flowing through the clutch and brake system now. Check out the cool clutch bleed tool I found [emoji106] (I love tools [emoji2]). Check your brake fluid every year.

Took her for a nice 110 mile drive with the top down, traffic was light due to the football games so I got to open her up a few times. Nothing sounds better than hitting 120mph on an empty freeway with the top down.

Bled the cooling system after changing the water pump, thermostat and plugs last weekend. Very smoky when warming, even after up to temp for a while. Seemed like steam, but no leaks and seems to be at level.

For the bleeder, there are deep socket and shallow socket versions in 10 or 11mm. I purchased the deep socket 11mm version. The socket is hollow and it seems to be permanently attached to the reversible ratchet. It comes with a good quality bleeder hose (~1 meter length) that runs freely through the socket and ratchet. I attached the bleeder hose to the clutch slave bleeder valve, attached the other end of the hose to my brake bleeder catch can, slid the ratchet/socket assembly onto the bleeder valve, made sure I had fluid and pressure in the Motive and let it rip. Standard operating procedure from that point forward. After bleeding, I just slid the ratchet/socket assembly down the hose and removed the hose from the valve. I had also purchased a much less expensive ‘bleeder’ ratchet but it had a shallow socket that had a fixed grommet / hose assembly built into it and I did not like the way it barely fit and was difficult to remove from the bleeder valve (tested on a brake valve). Just to mention that I had the braces, pan and midpipes removed, along with the axle disconnected from the trans axle, when I bled the clutch slave. Taking advantage of my axle / midpipe replacement project made for much easier access to the clutch slave. |
