Returned from weekend porsche trip with wife! This weekend was to the beach, and finally saw 2 more boxster prowling the streets, and a nice Ferrari. Dont see many sports cars around my area, except my neighbours nephew play proffessional football ie soccer.

Late to the game this year...started and drove for the first time since last fall. Removed car cover and tender, pushed outside garage...started as if it was driven 10 minutes ago...not a poof of smoke and no perceptible flat spots on tires. For whatever reason, this was the best "wake from slumber" experience I can remember...I'm guessing the car can sense when hibernation is over and knows it's time to frolic in the summer weather. :)

First autocross today. What a blast. Up here in Virginia near VIR and saw two guys in the parking lot, one with a Spyder and the other with a brand new Alfa. When they asked what I was driving, I sheepishly pointed to the boxster. Both rushed over to see it and kept saying this is how Porsche should have kept the design and that after all these years it's still one of the best looking models Porsche ever designed. Not too shabby...

I passed emissions with my new-to-me ‘01 Boxster S today. I also got a pretty sweet sunburn, as it’s my first drop top and I didn’t think about it.

My next upgrade will be a tube of sunscreen in the door pocket.

I can relate.
When you have hair like I do, (none) you always have a ball cap or two and sunscreen in the car at all times.

Washed, polished and took her for a drive.

A8ked 05-26-2018 09:16 PM

That Z top looks sharp! Was it hard to install? Do you have to remove it to put the car in “service mode” when working on the engine or can you simply leave latch open?

Starter986 05-28-2018 05:43 AM

Drove to the Farewell show out at Glen Helen. Only P car in the lot.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1527514983.jpg

Installation is pretty easy if you leave the convertible top in. I decided to take it out, wish I hadn't. If you leave the convertible top in you would have to remove the top to get to the engine though.

So tempting... I have an OEM hardtop on mine already but love the look of yours more. Sucks to buy the kit AND paint the new trunk as well. :-/

nice drive with the top down

Took the Boxster and the Jaguar out for a day drive with the tops down in the mountains. Beautiful drive, hike, lunch, dinner. fun time with my family.

Deserion 05-29-2018 09:52 AM

Over the weekend, but I've been working slow. :p

Saturday: wash and claybar
Sunday: two-step polish
Monday: waxing
Today: buffing and reinstallation of all the lights, then applying canvas protectant

(Actually installed over weekend) Relocated my horn button. Great solution after installing MOMO steering wheel. Drilled a hole in the dash plug left of Radio.

Button is small good size for dash https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015X34IP6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Porsche Letters

I just added the Porsche Letters three days ago. I wanted to keep the letters the same color as the Boxster S emblem. Some on the forum have added both in chrome.

Probably the wrong thread, but why not just drill out all of the connections at the black plastic flange that bolts on to the firewall and connect the ~6" long hoses behind the firewall to the hoses running to the coolant tank with with barbed hose joiners and spring clamps. Would be just a heck of a lot easier to replace these tanks. But I supposed these were never supposed to be replaced.

If you've ever done one, it becomes obvious that nobody at the factory ever thought or cared if anyone ever changes the tank. The spring clamps are put on so that you can't hardly get to them to compress them, the hoses that go from the bulkhead manifold are welded to the metal tubes on the passenger side and are fairly painful to get to. I replaced all those small diameter hoses with bulk stock hose, used the spring clamps over again to attach to the bulkhead manifold and put it back in preassembled, so that all was necessary was to connect the oil tube, the oil dipstick tube, the oil cooler hose and the two feed lines to their prospective destinations in the engine compartment. Any coolant hoses in the engine compartment got 1/4" drive spiral hose clamps. Still not easy, but a lot easier.

Plan on replacing the oil filler tube and the dipstick tube, both mine kinda crumbled.

Looks nice! Makes it look like a newer model.

BTW, I'm kinda stalled on a project. I replaced the worn carpeting with much less worn carpeting. Can't get the wiring connector hooked back up to the gas pedal--gotta keep wacking at it, but it's so hot these days. Changing carpeting is not for the faint of heart!

I installed the Circuit Werks exhaust on my car.

Replaced the original front strut/shocks with new Bilstein H6 and hoping to replaced rear next week.

Changed the climate control backlights from blue to electric blue, then white, then back to blue. :(

Sadly, the opaque button material greatly affects the hue of lighter color LEDs passing through it. Electric blue looked closer to "surgical scrub" green and white looked light orange. Very disappointing...oh well. Blue it is.

This was the electric blue (not bad on the screen, but the buttons look horrid):

This is a great idea. Not stock but will make your (any future owners) lives easier and less expensive. Knock wood I don't have to have this done, but I will go this route should the need arise.

Working through some minor things to prep for my first DE / Track day in a couple of weeks.
Painted the spare wheels.
Pulled the front bumper and cleaned between the radiators.

.....

Does this mean that you are changing all of the orange lighting (controls, dash, orientation lighting) to blue? If so, would you mind starting a thread? I would be very interested in seeing results, ideas and frustrations. :). Thanks much!

I actually changed them to blue years ago:

Installed my new ignition switch and installed a nulaxy km24 fm transmitter. It works like a dream. Very clear calls and music sounds great. I would highly recommend it. I also got a “hug buddy” from an auto parts store and put it on the nearest passenger vent and passenger cup holder. Holds my iPhone 7 Plus well and is easy to see for directions. Loving the Boxster so far!!

Is this the “CarPlay” stereo?

No, I wish. It is just a stand alone unit that does bluetooth and plugs into the cig lighter. Only cost $23. Very cheap for what it is.
