Seal Gray with the Gold stripe/White accent. I think you finally got it! Also, I normally don't like faux vents and grills on cars, but I have to admit, that looks great on your Z Top.

yup 78F350...a more golden tone seems to harmonize way better with the grey...
using the forum for feedback and an easy access brain storm idea collection, so don't wonder... I will delete the unnecessary pics afterwards

Test:
matching colors...seems logical

BUT somehow it is not always true...maybe the color proportions are outta the place.
So no matching colors for the sides...voila works much better here...and a blur filter with black outline on top...Bingo
PROBLEM --> how the heck am I going to find a shop being able to re-create that for a reasonable price...lol

Those beautiful Fuchs wheels go well with a near matching color. Vinyl for the stripe? You could buy a sheet of 3M vinyl from eBay or a vendor and test it yourself before spending money for the Professional. http://stores.ebay.de/TINTLOOK/_i.html?_nkw=gold&submit=Finden&_sid=758900980

Thanks for opening my eyes again, 78F350. Will test the color first

3M is offering a service which completely produces your creations on vinyl (color and all), which is too tempting not to try it...but later someday

For now, I have created a new design based on existing 3M vinyls. Should arrive next weekend....as they don‘t offer a really nice gold or beige (IMO), I had to switch the Color to....Black Rose...looks great on grey...and hopefully on the 986 too, lol

Wow looks good.

What's the grille taken from?

Thx. Wonder how the stripes will work on the hood and roof, kind of confident though

Grille: If I could find a 911 grille (991.2), I would would use their chrome trims and brake light unit. For now I simulate aesthetics with matte black vinyl and high quality 12mm chrome trims.
The long hatch NEEDED something to catch the eye IMO. The new Caymans solved that aesthetical lets say "space for improvement" with a curved hatch and a longer rear window.
I always had my own wonkie taste, which makes life not easier

HALLELUJAH...what a difference!
This was money well invested. So precise, so short, so fast, ... snapping into gears...just wow.
Lets the stock shifter appear like from a 1972 VW Beetle

Yes. Although I have to drive a bit more (and probably getting used to the stronger pull and therefor won't be able to tell the difference more precisely), I can already say...pulls better all the way, >3500rpm even better.
As my 986 is desnorkeled, the air intake sounds even a bit (not obnoxiously) louder now. Guess I have to balance that out with a valve PSE now
I was skeptical at first, not anymore!

I like the colors and the stripe, but the grille isn't quite working for me yet. I remembered a 911 whale tail I had seen on Craigslist with similar colors. Would the grille look better if it was horizontal? or striped? like the whale tail.

Hey JB,

grille is almost finished, but roof and hood stripes...it is just too cold in my unheated garage...not good for any kind of work, especially paint, stickers or stripes...
Can't wait to see the hood result...I hope i found a good width proportion for the stripes.
And that "Black Rose" needs sun to shine...WE NEED SPRIIIIIIIING SUN

Hey 78F350,

yea, I photoshopped a Boxster with a whaletail once here on the forum...
It seems, that I am not the greatest whale tail or GT4 spoiler fan for a (especially open) Boxster. The proportion gets out of control. Caymans etc is a whole different story. As I am planning on converting back to "spyder" in summer, rear spoilers are out of questions.
Only spoiler I really like is that from Joe Tooth, but I am not sure how it handles way beyond 100mph. Probably a good balance for my upcoming front splitter though.
The 911 grilles I like are the latest ones (horizontal), for some funky reason I like them even better than the old 911 (horizontal). I wish I could find one (and for a reasonable price) to butcher

...just an idea of the color combo
Looks good on the Mustang, are the stripes a kit or are you just making your own? I think the grilles looking good. Impressed that your making it yourself. Can't wait on finished product 😀

The stripes are not really a ready to order kit, I had to give exact measurements (width and length, 2,5cm - 3cm - 34cm - 3cm - 2,5cm, 4m ) to a car wrap company, they had them cut and assembled as a single 3-stripe vinyl wrap.

Btw, my side stripes were custom made, too. A mix between a 911/cayman stripe was not available back then, nowhere. But customization is not a biggie anymore today.

And another project waiting in line:

My home made meshes were toast (rusty, yuk) as well as my side intakes need to be redone.
This time I got the real deal zunsport meshes, but they offer them only for the preFL. So AGAIN, I need to take action to customize a working solution for my FL intakes.
Intakes were "kinda" chromed by a tiny workshop last time, but that lasted only for 2 years, especially the heat on the right side created bubbles.
So this time, I will have them done by professionals in silver...it should not bubble they say.

BTW: I have MEGA troubles to remove my left side intake (FL)...YouTube did not really help. Any cool ideas how the remove the left intake, brute force and all...? THX
