What's the story on your center console? Did you do that yourself or have it done? It's beautiful. Please share on here so people know what I'm talking about

Of course, Woody!
Well, I found a company on eBay (Germany) which offered a complete overhaul for 996/986 consoles with oem quality leather...for a let's say reasonable price....ALL console pieces included...with stitching color of your choice (i picked grey, like on my door handles and the shifter leather boot).

So I took my sticky old rubber console, shipped it to that saddler...and he shipped it back covered (after stripping the rubber of course) with finest OEM quality leather (just like the OEM crested arm rest, which i found brand new on eBay). What a difference...

Polished Trim rings (credits to Chuck )

almost no glare despite all the seal grey surrounding the gauges...sooooo old school, love it! :D

paulofto 08-30-2017 08:20 AM

That interior looks amazing . . . nicely done Bran!

Troy.Boxster 08-30-2017 11:14 AM

I love the look of that interior... and exterior. The wood shifter, e-brake, and console are gorgeous as well. I may have to get the contact information for that leather work company.

I also like the headlights, side markers, hardtop, instrument cluster and, I'm confident, a lot more.

Thanks, guys!

...and another project done:
Blindspot detection sensors + interior LEDs integration
The outline of the milky plastic-glas is defined by the interior cover piece setup, which holds it in place.
Nice amber led light, noticeable, but not "in your eye".

http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1500478391.jpg
And some more "older" pictures (exchanged the side vents with burl wood ones) of my mods:
Passenger side door LED? Why not...
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1432387112.jpg
a tiny little mod... brushed alu trim rings...look'n'feel is better than of the plastic silver ones in above pictures imo.
First, sanded down the plastic trim rings, 2-3mm, then cut and shaped a 2mm alu layer, bent it,
"brushed" it with a dremel, and "glued" it on top of the original ones. Perfect fit, perfect feel.

Wow, Bran... very clever, tasteful, and detail-oriented mods here. WTG!

BRAN 08-31-2017 01:09 AM

Thank you Jakeru and Porsche9, greatly appreciated.

Update on my TMPS project:
The Chinese BLE TMPS arrived. I had a couple of questions and VXDAS customer support offered EXCELLENT, fast and detailed, customer support. That is really noteworthy!
So far, under test lab conditions (a hair dryer blowing warm air on a sensor...lol), I got nicely animated results with in my iOS app (android is available too).
Update frequency seems a little random, but that is probably due to my tast lab conditions, which means not installed on a wheel.
The Valves are made out of aluminum, which is required for high speed tires. Sadly they could not officially confirm Vmax >250km/h. Will see what the tires shop has to say about them...
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1504183939.jpg
I have NO CLUE how they communicate with my iPhone, as I cannot see any TMPS device in my Bluetooth settings, at all. Must be Chinese magic :D

BruceH 08-31-2017 05:51 AM

Really nice as usual BRAN! I really like the leather center console. I talked to one shop a few years ago and they didn't want to take it on. I need to try to find someone around here that can do something like that.

How about a little "Bling"... (photoshop!)
The gear indicator would be easy to install, but that Porsche 918RSR shift light would be a little tricky to install on a 986 steering wheel :D
There are a few aftermarket solutions from CARTEK, but I don't like their looks as much.
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1504269181.jpg
Car 54, where are you? That would be another cool project (a copy of the 918RSR shift light with OBD and Bluetooth support) for our forum engineer Fred :D

Nine8Six 09-01-2017 06:25 AM

My custom webcrawler alarmed on keyword "Bling" and texted me this website address ;)

Your attention to details is phenomenal. You should go work at Pagani Automobili. Similar style... mixed between tactical aircraft and retro curves and tones.

Nine8Six 09-01-2017 06:34 AM

What's wrong with the TPs? Have you tried on a laptop to see if you can catch the BT signal?

Can you see those listed inside Device Manager > Ports (COM and LPT)?

Would be nice cuz you could then connect to them and diagnose from there (calibrate also I'm sure, adj resolution, stuff like that).

For serial... I like PuTTY but there are tons of others. Remember HyperTerminal? loll

EYE CANDY, AWESOME!!
Form follows looks, forget about the function!
They even recycle old MDA/PDA mobile phones, now that is fantastic.
On my way to the PAGANI dealership right now.

Fred, are you working on the shift lights already?:D

Absolutely. Consider it done, Bran.

Now you owe me 0.3hrs of work (at my rate US$8.99). Manufacturing is a bit rough though as the kit comes in a one piece + pcb + BT transceiver + 15 smd led (color: amber/red only TUV approved). Total US$28.99 + shipping.

Thank you!
Nice8Six Factories

PS: you can report me if you need this deleted ;) (Subscribed btw, cool thread Bran)

Now I only need that flux compensator thingy...and that brown leather seat :D

steele21 09-05-2017 01:57 PM

Wow!

Your car's lovely!

Lapister 09-06-2017 07:17 AM

Did you apply a chrome finish to the headlight frames or did they come that way? They compliment your ride nicely!

BRAN 09-07-2017 10:53 AM

Thanks guys!

The light bezels were available in two versions, black and chrome finish.
Barely available anymore, if at all.
I modded/trimmed them to suit my taste.

I got an invitation for a Porsche Leipzig Pilot Program:

The Porsche Leipzig Pilot offer combines two dreams of many sports car fans: a first-hand look at how a Porsche is constructed. And then the opportunity to take the wheel yourself. Whether Cayenne, Macan, 718 Boxster, 718 Cayman, 911 or Panamera choose your favourite and then discover the natural habitat of every Porsche: the track. After detailed instruction we begin by introducing you to our on-road circuit. The next stage is to learn the basics of professional driving skills: slalom, braking, evading. In the final part of the program you will drive some intensive laps directly behind our instructor.

Cayman or 911....hmmm
