Well that website he bought his from only gives you one option for a Boxster 986 water pump. For $255 which one do you think he got?

PUMP & HOSES for 2003 Porsche Boxster

EDIT: Can you give me a link on the MKIII water pump for a 986 Boxster. Only thing I can find pertaining to a Porsche MKIII water pump is for 2007-10 Cayennes.

I can't even find anything related to a Boxster 986 water pump using MK references.

KRAM - I was eluding to the number of revisions that Porsche have had on their coolant pumps. For instance I bought a genuine pump from Jake Raby in Sept 2010 with part #999-106-011-55 which has already been superseded by pump suffix#56 - see below for all the revisions.

Genuine Porsche Parts
Manufacturer: Porsche
Part Number: 996-106-011-56
Part: WATER PUMP
Replaces: 996-106-011-51, 996-106-011-53, 996-106-011-54, 996-106-011-55

All I am saying is there is no guarantee that other (cheaper) suppliers are selling you the latest updated pump....
And I'm sure nobody outside of Porsche and the manufacturer knows the difference between the models. Who knows, pumping volume, bearing size, impeller materials etc etc may all have been updated.

Gelbster - you are correct re latest pump # as far as I can find...

True that. I don't think he got a Genuine Porsche water pump, in the meaning, one straight from Porsche for $255. He more then likely got a Pieburg water pump, which Porsche uses and what Porsche sends out as a Genuine Porsche part. He got a better deal on the same part, just not as cheap as he could have.

Kram; First I am a Newby to water cooled Porsches. I can see that you spend a lot of time updating/improving your car so I am sure you have done a lot of research. The point I was attempting to make (excuse my brevity in previous posts) was that this is not a part to gamble with, since severe damage can result from cheap/inferior parts. The OP was looking on Ebay! Caveat Emptor is not worth saving a few bucks. While the Genuine part I was shipped is indeed made by Pierburg, I can rest assured it is Genuine and a quality part. Remember there are a lot of newby like me that look to this forum for guidance. "Porsche, accept no substitute!" Edit; Unless it is made better! Thanks to LN engineering and Jake .

Monty, what year is your Boxster? I noticed on the sticker of the box you poster it says they sent you an AS Water Pump. Even Pelican sells those for less and list them for only 97 and 98 model years only.

Search ebay for the pump. There are new ones from $60 to $470(!). There are even people trying to sell used ones for $150. Unbelievable.

I replaced my water pump last year and compared the one I got to a new Porsche part as the shop I got it from ordered both to check. As far as we could tell, they were identical, including the part number.

If I had to do it over again, I would get that $470 one from ebay. It costs over two times what mine did, so it must be better, right?

No; What is interesting is it is for '97 and '98 cars exclusively, but the part number indicates it is good up to MY '04. The Pelican site has some interesting info if you click the part then go to the frequently asked section. I'm thinking has something to do with OES vs OEM.

I just sent Pelican a ticket asking what the differences are and why they are for 97 and 98 model years only.

I retired from my job on April 10th, 2015. So I can stay up at late as I want too. 47 years old and feel like a teenager on summer break, staying up late, sleeping until 1pm lol.

Most of the time I stay up until my daughter has to get up for work, once she leaves I hit the sack. She has to be out the door by 3:15am and I want to make sure she doesn't oversleep.

I have Pedro's pulley - love it. No problems, been in....like 8 months maybe. Comes with a new belt that is the appropriate size for the new pulley.

Pedro also sells a motor mount - have it in and love it as well. If I remember correctly he gets the rubber directly from the OEM supplier, and it is equivalent to a 2008 Cayman S, which he felt was the best mount. He sells it already pressed, you just unbolt and re-bolt. And, he refunds you $50 for sending in your old core.

I think your on the right track. The reply back said "The only difference is who we buy the part from on 996-106-011-56-OEM ". No explanation on the 97 and 98 model year only part, so I replied back asking again why they are for 97 and 98 model years only.

So if I'm reading this correctly, according to Pelican site, Pierburg must be OES, OEM and AS, but only for 97 to 98. Later years may have different manufacturer?

"Both part # 996-106-011-56-OEM and 996-106-011-56-M100 are both genuine Porsche water pumps, these both fit 1997 -2004 Porsche Boxster and the Boxster S. If you would like to place an order for this please let me know.

So I don't know why the have them listed for 97 and 98 model years. You did get a Genuine Porsche at a nice price.

Did yours come with a gasket? They don't have the listing as needing to buy as gasket, which would make it an even better deal.

Did you feel any hp from the butt dyno? Curious if there really is a hp increase.

Wanted to say thanks to everyone for helping, posting info and being awesome guys.

The more I dip into this car, the more I need to replace! That's ok though, Ive always done my own work so I know its getting done right. Question, for the motormount I was thinking of backing up the nuts with another set of locking nuts instead of locktite. The nuts that have the nylon inserts. Good ideal?
