Would removing the rear spoiler motor cause a CEL?

My spoiler motor is removed and the spoiler is permanently up. I do not get a CEL but I do get a spoiler "fault" and the spoiler light on the dash is illuminated each time I drive the car (it resets after I turn off the engine). Since its a race car, I just ignore it. The easy fix is to simply remove the bulb for the spoiler light from the gauge cluster. Hmm. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow!
