Would removing the rear spoiler motor cause a CEL?

I'm looking at having a local body shop make a custom rear spoiler for my 2003 Boxster S and I would no longer require the spoiler to raise. Would removing the spoiler motor cause the CEL to come on?

Thanks!

I don't see how CEL would be lighting up not using the spoiler motor.

My thoughts as well, but I don't have a catalogue of all possible CELs. I'd be really surprised if it did. Others may have a definitive answer.

Just pull out the fuse on the motor circuit and go for a fast ride.. you'll soon find out. I'm guessing a open circuit code reg from the dme at worst. Not sure about CEL...

Looking fw seeing this new wing if you go that way!!!

My spoiler motor is removed and the spoiler is permanently up. I do not get a CEL but I do get a spoiler "fault" and the spoiler light on the dash is illuminated each time I drive the car (it resets after I turn off the engine). Since its a race car, I just ignore it. The easy fix is to simply remove the bulb for the spoiler light from the gauge cluster. Hmm. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow!

One less thing to steal your attention when you're driving!

Thstone said it above- I think I remember reading that you will get the spoiler alert light in th dash if the car is not able to raise the spoke at 75. I think it is documented in the manual as well. I read about it when I was researching this since I was curious if my spoiler was working like it is supposed to at 75 mph and my wife refused to follow me to test it.

Pulling that bulb would be the way to go then.

Thanks so much for the replies!

Here is my plan. Buy this spoiler here

and having the body shop permanently mount it to the top of the regular spoiler. Of course they will have to shave it to fit and have them fill in the gaps so it looks like it's one piece.

I have one of these which I'm going to remove. I'm not sure why you would want to mount it to the top of the standard spoiler. The standard spoiler is just clipped on. If you bond it on you will lose the profile and flush look of the spoiler. This Cayman style spoiler works better on the pre facelift cars without the rear bumper recess or cut out.
