It is a drop in fit with no modifications, just attach, adjust and plug in, and your good to go.

I also need a new rear window and considered the entire top from a 2003 with the glass window from a dismantler.

The 2003 has an extra bow in the roof and changes the roof shape slightly.
Your are correct, a 2003 roof complete with frame can just be popped on. The trouble is I can't find one, but I dd find a 987 roof complete for a good price so it would have been great if it fitted
