Brucelee, regarding what you said:I called Schnieder Nelson(closest dealer) and was quoted $12,000 for a factory bebuilt engine installed.Do you know of another number to call to get information on a cheaper price. The car did have 85,000 miles on it but I'm sure everyone expects better from a company like porsche and I would deffinetly expect more from my next engine.

Call Sunset Porsche at 800-346-0182
I suggest a call to Sunset because my local dealer determines their own prices on Porsche parts. In some cases, it was 30% OVER Porsche published retail!!! I asked about it and they said "supply and demand" determines the price.
Sunset ships anything Porsche sells through a parts counter for 15% over their invoice plus shipping. I bet they'll give you a good deal on that reconditioned engine.

Hi,
I spoke with Sunset and thay want $5980 not inc. shipping for a rebuilt engine. So,I am still not sure what to do.
I have been considering negotiating but am woried I will not get the same quality.Do you think that will be an issue?
I have looked on ebay and called LA Porsche Dismantlers and it seems thay want an average asking price of $3000 for a motor w/ roughly 30k miles (this one has 40k miles). In my opinion,a very fair price for the both of us would be $5000 (as said earlier).I believe I could negotiate LA Porsche a little off that engine for $3000 and maybee get that down to $2500.Even if this engine he has is worth $3000(he had to get it for less meaning he has some profit their),then he makes atleast $2000 to take the car as is and put the new engine in and reassemble the car.Do you think that is a fair request and will I be hurting myself by negotiating in a situation like this?

I have bought from LA Porsche many times, and the do negociate very well. Ive been able to knock them down almost 50% on some items. I have heard of them selling boxster engines for as low as 1500 with 27k miles on it. I think LA Porsche is your best bet for a good price.

So sorry to hear about your motor troubles! I am actually not too far from you in
Medford NJ. There is a local Porsche specialist that I have been to and a friend of mine with a Carerra.. good experience.
The name is Brother to Brother Porsche.
Their phone number is
Brother to Brother
Mechanic: David Matsuk
Tidswell Ave.
Medford, NJ 08055
(609) 953-0286
Give them a call and see if they can find you a motor or if they have one and what kind of price they can offer.
Dont be afraid to ask for a discount on the labor rate. Most shops in our area are 89 to 90 bucks an hour. They will probably discount to 50 or 60 per hour.
Best of luck!

For a new engine quote also Check out the Porsche Dealership in Oregon...Check out Excellence Magazine for their ad...plus no sales tax in Oregon. Also, I would pay the guy holding your car ransom with a credit card. Then after you get the car, call them and tell them you did not authorize the charge.
